Anyone know of a possible re-themeing of Indy Speedway in Tomorrowland after CARS comes out.... I have hear rumblings of this rumor but figured someone here could sent me straight..

Honestly, I hate the speedway, I just don't get it. It is "TOMORROW", It stinks up tomorrow land like gas, nor is it even "Disney" related. I understand that it is based on Autotopia at Disneyland.... Maybe someone could also give some history on Indy

Haven't heard those rumors, but CARS would be a good fit.

I agree, the Speedway is still so 70's Cement Retro (the bad retro) style. How about some electric cars that don't make a sound - or make a Tron-cycle kind of future-noise?

Making the light cycle sounds would be sweet.

I agree, its most definatlly time to update this attraction. I myself haven't heard any rumors about the CARS theme but that would be fun. Maybe they could do something with it like te Autopia in Disneyland. Give the cars a personality and plant some trees around there and make it more like a country drive.

tell you the truth i think it is more for us kids to drive remember most kids might not have go-carts or stuff like that i think that is one of the reasons it is there

I recall hearing about a "Cars" Themed speedway being put into HK DL, but I can't recall seeing anything about the WDW version. I know that there is a version in the drawing board phase, but that's about it.

Autopia, while not a "great" attraction, is far better than the Indy Speedway, imho. It takes a meandering path through trees, over/under passes, etc. I believe it was meant as a Tomorrowland attraction because those types of freeways weren't very commonplace back in 1955.

Indy has no real "tomorrow" connection, other than the contrived "race of tomorrow" theme. Sure, kids love to drive the cars, but as we've discussed many times, that shouldn't end the story for a Disney attraction.

As for a Cars re-themeing project, I'd be very surprised if that was given a go ahead prior to the film being released, since that hasn't been happening for other Pixar films. Makes sense for the most part. Re-themeing an attraction for a movie that flops probably wouldn't make for a good investment. Though the Pixar movies have become about as close to a sure thing as you can get. But still, I doubt it would be approved prior to finding out if the film is a hit, if it were approved at all.

Very good point,
Maybe they want to keep it in the plan stages say if the movie does hit well and they do want to change the theme. Then it wouldnt be that much time to wait from the movie release to the re-theme is complete.
All they would have to wait on is the construction. Know what I mean?

But there is precedent....It's Tough to be a Bug was opened prior to the release of A Bug's Life.

Wasn't the Dinosaur ride open prior to the movie also?

The Dinosaur ride was opened before the movie, but was called Countdown to Extinction. They changed the name due to movie, but I don't think they changed anything about the ride. As I undertsand it, they used dinosaurs from the ride in the movie.

Regardless, its theme doesn't really have anything to do with the movie, other than the "bad guy" being a Carnatour.

I didn't realize that about Its Tough to be a Bug.

So, yes, that would mean there was a precedent, but still, its not the way they normally do it. Buzz came much later, A Monsters Inc ride is only now coming at DCA, "Turtle Talk" came after Nemo, and there's no Incredibles ride at all.

So, I guess it could happen with the Indy Speedway, I'm just doubtful it would, timing-wise. Unless it was part of some new agreement between Pixar and Disney. You know, Disney agreed to open attractions at the same time or before the Pixar film was released, something like that.

I never saw the Dinosaur movie, so I dont know what the main character... er... Dinosaur's name is. HOWEVER, I am almost positive that the type of dinosaur he is, is the dinosaur that you are looking for in the attraction.

If my memory serves me right, there was not a thing chaged about the actual attraction. The only thing that was changed was the singage and I dont seem to remember the dino outside in or around the fountain.

The fountain used to contain a Styracasaurus (horn frilled dino) or was it a Triceratops? Anyway when they changed the sign, they changed the dino to an Iguanadon to reflect the movie, then got rid of the fountain and made it a huge planter.
