My family received a voucher ($1380) from SW for taking a bump on a flight in April. I'm looking to book flights in August (have to go to WDW to take advantage of free dining!) - the cost would be $902 for the 4 of us. I called SW and was told that I should mail the voucher in (after travel is complete) together with the travel and credit card information and they would refund the cost of the flight to the credit card. I asked about the balance - whether I would have to wait until I'd used all the credit, she said she thought they'd just send a new voucher for the remaining amount.

So - my question is - has anyone done this? I'd hate to lose the $478 just because I didn't wait and mail info for the entire voucher amount at once - but on the other hand, I don't want to have to wait to get my $902 back until I fly again (as of now I don't have any other travel plans).

Also, I thinking I should purchase with my debit card so that when the $902 credit is issued back to the card used for the purchase, I'll have cash instead of a credit on my credit card - any reason I shouldn't do this?
