I am supposed to leave for WDW in 11 days. My grandma is nearing her time, and we believe it will be anyday. I was just wondering if anyone knew what is Disney's policy regarding rescheduling due to a death. Do you lose the code you have (7 for 5)? What about rescheduling PS's, especially CRT? DD would be so upset if we had to miss that. Hopefully I won't have to worry about any of these things, but I wanted to be prepared just in case. BTW, I don't think I bought the vacation insurance.

TIA

Any chance the family would wait to hold services until you get back, if she were to pass either before your trip or during?

I'm pretty sure you would just cancel your existing vacation, and then make a brand new reservation.

I don't think it's really "rescheduling" from Disney's standpoint. And I would think the new reservation would be like any other new reservation...

Sorry to hear about your grandmother.

Unfortunately, I can answer this first hand. My Mom passed away this past May and we were scheduled to be in WDW just 4 days later. I was able to reschedule, however, it is much more difficult to do if you booked through a travel agent. I immediately called WDW (despite having booked through an agent) and notified them of my dilemna. They were more than willing to fufill my needs and reschedule until they realized the ressie was placed by an agent. They told me there was absolutely no person in WDW who would talk to me direct. All conversations had to be with the agent. Upon contacting them, since I booked with codes, I found my "alternate dates" were not so accomodating. We did go two weeks later at no addl. cost. However, I was not able to get the date changed to one day earlier or later during the week I chose. I was very frustrated. Honestly, it made me reconsider using an agent going forward.

For the airlines, I had awesome luck and cooperation. I had JetBlue booked for the first time. They had to get confirmation from the funeral home of the service, etc. which took minutes and I was able to rebook (assuming they had open seats) whenever I would like. They would not issue a credit to my credit card however. My flights actually ended up costing over $500 more than what I actually booked them for (same flights but later flight home) and I did not pay one cent. I could not say enough good things about them.

Michele, I am so sorry to hear about your mom. But thank you for telling me what you went through. I didn't go through a travel agent, well WDW's agent, but I guess that is a good thing now. I pray that I don't have to make changes, but it is nice to know that everyone was very accommodating.

Thanks Gina.

I honestly don't think since you booked with WDW direct that you'll have any problems at all rescheduling. As I mentioned, they were more than happy to accomodate me if I had not used an agent.

I hope you can still make your trip and I'll keep your Grandmother in my prayers.

Michele

P.S.

Here's something I did that I'd thought I mention to you considering the circumstances. When we went to WDW I wanted to do something to "honor" my Mom. After much thought, I purchased a "Leave a Legacy" tile at Epcot (about $25) in my Mom's name. It says "In Rembrance of..." Now, when we visit Epcot/WDW we can now feel like she is with us each trip. Not only can we enjoy it but so can all her friend's and relatives.
