It seems there are more people offering points for rent than there are people looking to rent. Is it an accurate statement to say that one can just about always find points to rent from someone, but that you can't always get your excess points rented out?

Also...how long has the going rate been 10.00 (ish)? Does anyone think it will go up or down in the near future?

I just recently found that I could (and am in the process of) renting points from a DVC member and I'm thrilled to be able to stay at the BCV. I wish I had known about this for all my past vacations.

Anyway...I'm just curious about the supply and demand of the points.

Thanks.

Pam

One person posting points for rent and that person gets e-mails from all the people who want to rent. You don't see the e-mails,what you should see is the person renting the points saying they are no longer available. Thats how I rented my points.

I never thought of it that way! I was just comparing what I see on the board -- not taking into account all the emailing that goes on.

I'm just curious if I'll be able to rent points again next year, or if the supply will decrease and/or the demand will increase!

People rent out their points for a variety of reasons;they might want to go somewhere other than Disney that year and rather trade through II they rent their points to finance another vacation;they've got points left over from a previous trip that are about to expire..they've hit financial blip and would rather rent the points that year than sell their entire contract.

Anyhow I would imagine that there will always be points to rent, but how many and when is always the question.

I personally think that as more people find out about the DVC rent/trade board demand to rent points will most likely increase, but that's just my opinion.

The price varies according to the member renting and as you said right now it's about $10ish per point. If the member is close to losing the points because they need to be used by a certain date or they expire, some members may drop the price maybe even as far as $7, but I doubt you'll see them go much lower than that. I also think (and again this is just my personal opinion) that as DVC dues increase members will be increasing the price of the points they rent out.

Hello,

Most people who want to rent do not post on the board. I have rented over 1000 points and never had the renters had a post. They all replied via email to my post.

There are 2 factors that determine the price. First and foremost is the rate that Disney is charging for a comparable room for a cash reservation. As long as folks can rent DVC points and save 35 - 50% off a cash reservation I think you will see the price stay around 10 ish. If Disney goes up or down on the cash price DVC point rentals may follow.

Second is supply and demand. I am seeing more demand than supply right now for larger point rentals (250+) since most folks are only renting their excess. In the lower rentals it looks like supply and demand is about the same (ie most renters and rentees getting want they need.

The great thing is that renting is a good deal for all involved.
And there is nothing else like staying at a Disney Home away from Home resort.

Happy New Years

Just a quick example. I just rented my point for 2003 becasue we are going to Key West.

I posted on Saturday, by Monday I had over 10 direct emails and the points were rented by Monday afternoon.
