So you want **everything** that is rare released on just one day a year?
Wouldn't you have to have many thousands of credits to buy all that on just one day?
Wouldn’t the server be crashing ALL DAY LONG with people trying to get it.

They can release 1-2 rare things every month, and spread out the spending of the credits over time, and that one thing - say blue rocker this month -- would still only be release once a year.

Excellent case in point--- the release of "park buyable item red penny press" and the "rare red turnstile" in the quest they did today- September 5. If you have not been to a Disney Park in the past year it was a rare thing and you had to trade for it in the game. A couple of pieces of medium rare were released today and no credits had to be spent (except for goofy hat - 25 credits), and the release was only for about 6 hours. Sure a lot of people got it today, but isn't that was "rare re-release" is about? Sure you have to wait now for it to be in demand again, but isn't that what "rare re-release" is about? If they released Mansion Hat again tomorrow, couldn't have you to wait for it to be in demand again?

Weren’t you happy about the release today? Didn’t you do a little dance for that release today? I thought it was a great start. There is no need to re-release it again for a year. Next week or 2 weeks from now, maybe they will re-release something else rare. Do they have to post on it “THIS IS RARE THING - GET IT TODAY” for people to be happy about it?

I do think the quests are a fair way to do it ***** as long as the mini games don’t have an impossibly high score demands. ****

I think if people were to set up and take notice they **are re-releasing** the rarer things now, not the very rare but the medium rare. Give them some time and thank them for the release today of the penny press and the turnstile.

I'm thinking that right now, what people are REALLY WANTING is **the release schedule for the items** so they can plan for it. But I doubt we will get that, or at least not get it more then a week or so ahead -- like hat month. They told us hat month was coming and we should prepare for it. They told us Narnia was coming, they told us Pirate stuff was coming, they told us that Everest was coming, etc.

The food pins, pets pins, all the monthly pins released for the last 6 months have been rare pins, only released on a couple of days of this year.

Set up folks – take notice. Make plans now. When something is released on Friday in the Emporium it’s a good bet it is going away the following Monday – buy lots of it NOW for it will be rare in 6 months. Think to the future.

If we sit and think on this a moment, what do we know is coming soon that we might get something rare in the game out of it -- Halloween, Christmas, New Years, maybe something Thanksgiving, or maybe something new from a new park ride or show or new movie.

It’s ok to want things from the past, but think about today and think about tomorrow too.

i know this wouldn't work for some things, like green flips, but i wouldn't mind if they re-released some things perhaps in a different color or tweaked a little bit. my favorite rare item in my inventory is the seagull hat. what if they released a brown seagull hat? But then again, a lot of it has to do with color, like blue dresses.

what if they gave items a different name, like "inferno 2.0"? that way people could get inferno, but it's just not the original release. And the various releases could remain rare if they do what others have suggested like keeping prices high and/or just having them available for one day. but then again, you get the problem of not having "inferno 1.0" or whatever...

idk :confused3 , just my $0.02

Here are some meanings to consider of the words rare and limited..

particularly interesting or valuable, especially to collectors, because only a few exist

highly prized because of being in short or limited supply

of which only a specific number of copies have been made. This has the effect of increasing the item's value.

However it seems most want VMK to turn rares and limiteds into..

so many that they cannot be counted

plentiful, present in great quantities

providing a more than plentiful supply of something abundant

available with little or no difficulty

No longer rare or limited

It sounds so sweet and buttery to hear some of you say "just release rares once per week" but then it wouldnt be rare. And nothing will ever be rare. If a rare like green flips or stitch went on sale for even 30 seconds, everyone would snatch up 100 pairs and then the value would drop over night.

Also yavn was being sarcastic, green flips and stitch will NEVER EVER be released period. yavn has made that clear on another board when asked.

I think what a lot of the people that have been playing for a long time don't understand is that some of us newer players would like some the cool items that are considered rare. But we can't always trade for them. Example:

I was in a trade room when someone said they were trading their princess dress. I asked "what are you looking for in trade" and was told the generic "rare". Honestly, most of the time I'm still unsure of what items are rare. Also, I currently have very few rare items, because I have not been playing very long (since May).

Now, I did not want the dress because it was rare. I wanted it because I liked it. I honestly don't care if anything is rare...sorry to have to say it.

Re-releasing rare items occasionally, such as in a quest or 1 day sale, would allow newer players (& players that can't get to the parks) to get some of the items that they like. Sorry if this would decrease the perceived value, but afterall they are only pixels...

First of all, they are not going to release green flips, they have said it many times. It is staff uniform now. No one else can ever buy it.

I can't even because to tell you how sorry I feel for you. All you seem to care about is the resale value of some piece of computer paint. Does it truely take away the enjoyment you get from the "item" if someone else has the same thing as you. That is just so very very sad.

It would affect me because I would have to buy everything I could get my hands on. I dont really have a lot of rare.

that is a loaded question...of course it would affect most everyone...a better question would be what would that effect be.

To me I do not care if something is rare or not I just like to decorate.

ie I NEED black candlesticks for my HM room and for Halloween. just one example.

Hey Mal!

I have two black candles I will trade you for inferno :lmao:

You're old enough to be my grandmother, so please don't patronize me. You feel sorry for me? Show me some DIS love, cat :lovestruc

You must have missed my only post on this topic where I listed the meanings of the words and offered my insight. I never once said my opinion or that's all I care about.

And even if I do? SO WHAT? Who do you think you are to try to belittle me? Actually I do care about rares but please spare me the dramatics about pixels and "computer paint" because it's more than that. Whether it's inferno or your avatar everyone has some emotional bond and value to them. I can't believe a VMKer would dare try to belittle someone with the "computer paint" line.

Just a reminder that everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion and discussing that opinion is great, but please do not post personal attacks against another member if you disagree with what they have to say.

Thank you!

Lori

Wow, Radvish - what an incredibly disrespectful thing to say. I agree with Cat_herder 100%. I think it is a shame that you seem to get so much greedy joy in having something others can only envy. Maybe when you are old and wisened like us, you'll feel differently. There's your DisneyLove, li'l Bro.

:wave2: Back on topic, not on attack...
I disagree with this even if it weren't to your 30 second extreme, or 30 minutes, even 3 HOURS. Look how much bat magic cost, 10 grand? If it were to be released at the SAME price, I would only be able to buy 3, and that would wipe me out of having anything left over for my hopes of cowboy or princess or whatever new surprises they have on their way. The quest last night...the only way my kids will have the items is if I give them from my mules because I only had 40 minutes to do it before getting shut off 4 away from getting dd's done. DS is more concerned about playing with friends and dd's were probably getting ready for bed shortly after getting home. Not everyone is on every time something is available. Had the prize been a magic pin, ds would have been disappointed he didn't know about the quest, but probably not over the red things. Life is more important to him, and that's a very good thing. :)

Some people buy 10 pins every weekend. Some will buy 10-20 of each costume. Those people have alot more credits either because they're better at fireworks, pirates, have quest and past rare to sell, or have been playing forever to gain a stash. The majority of the players don't have these kind of resources to buy multiple 3000 credit costumes, and still have plenty left for that magic that might be out next week. And the majority of the players aren't on 15 hours/day 7 days/week.

So that's my basis of an occasional re-release remaining rare. It also inspires new ideas for decorating rooms so people who had NO red before might now buy your EXTRA red, even though it might be a slightly lower price than before, so they can create an awesome Red room! It's time to dream, folks, not fight. :grouphug:

It would ruin the whole point of VMK if they started to sell Inferno, I saw a poll somewhere on the Boards earlier this week that said "What if inferno was sold for 75,000 credits." That would take away one of the rarest items in VMK. Also if they re-released Haloween costumes like cowboy and mansion it would bring down alot of trades and status. Or if they re-released old furniture like Red Crate, Beta Items, ect.

The few rarer things I have... would I feel a twinge for a second of "Drat, now it won't be worth much in trade for quite a while"? Of course. But then I'd think about how I'd feel if it was something I didn't have, and I'd be pretty happy. I had exactly one red turnstile before this and only a couple red penny presses. They were sort of rare, but I was just happy to have a chance to get an extra set for myself and one set for my mom.

I suppose my point is I couldn't give a hoot about something being rare or not. I want things I like, and I want to collect one of everything. Of course, if they sold rare items for more than a little while, then it would make it that much harder to get a Stitch hat or Inferno, but still. I see no harm though in selling everything for a brief time; the rarer the item, the higher the price.

I guess I just don't see the logic behind "We have to keep it rare!" WHY??? It's a Disney game. As in Walt Disney. AKA the man who was in the making dreams come true business, who wanted as many people as possible to be able to afford his products, such as the theme parks. I keep asking myself "Yeah, I can really see Walt telling a bunch of programmers: make some things so rare so that folks will have to trade everything they own to get it. Make things so rare so that there's a little hierarchy of the haves and have nots in a virtual world. Greed and taking advantage of others are great qualities to grow in these people." NOT. I can't even begin to imagine how he'd feel about some of the sniping that goes on in this game. Even with the somewhat limited rare I had, I couldn't trade for an animator's desk for quite awhile. I'd get laughed out of I don't know how many trade threads elsewhere or trade rooms in VMK. It's just sad. Stitch is sad as well. I see the argument of it only being available by booking a trip, but still. That's arguably one of the most popular Disney characters, and to not also release that to WDW guests as well is a shame. If it were, there'd be more of them and they'd be somewhat easier to obtain.

Inferno, I have the same beef with. They had to stop giving it out to make it more rare. I'm sorry, but WHY? The point is to use VMK to make people come to the parks, spend money, what have you. In park quest items aren't exactly going to get you Inferno. Beyond the Stitch set, I see no point to the "We have to keep it rare!" philosophy in terms of monetary profit for Disney. Because honestly, how much does in park quest go for that's currently out and has been out for a month or more? Not a whole lot. When new quests come out, you can get a lot for them. But wait a little bit and the trade value drops, big time. So, truly the only rare thing in VMK that affects Disney profits in a (probably) noticeable way is the Stitch set. That's the only thing currently available by going to an actual theme park and not a virtual one that is worth a lot in terms of rare items. So why does most everything else that's really neat have to be rare too?

So, count me in as one of the ones who sees no reason why all players shouldn't be able to get anything they want within a reasonable amount of playing time. Because think about it... if a player joins now, the only things they will buy are things that older players get as well. So their rare will still not typically be able to be traded from the rare of earlier this year and especially not last year. Aside from HOST pins/prizes, I don't really see how they can use what they have to trade up to the rarer stuff.

I guess the more I play, the less I understand why it's designed as it is. It can be very frustrating to me as an adult in terms of some of the psychotic trade value of some things, and I can imagine how children who aren't 24/7 video game players must feel. I just don't see the point. I love playing the games, talking to friends. The trading can be nice, but mostly it's a big hassle. Yes, some players love that and only that. But I don't see the point in a Disney game of deliberately creating an environment that fosters greed, rudeness, and a focus on things instead of people. Call me crazy, but I expect better of anything with the Disney name attached to it.
