Hi Everyone,

Firstly sorry to post here, about this Its just I need to Get this off my chest, as I'm so upset.

We had to take Chelsea to Hospital today.
Since septemeber last year she was in pain with her left leg, she couldnt move and just wanted to lie down since that she has limped on and off.
We took her to the dr's numerous of times to be told she has "Double jointed knees" "Growing pains" etc, I knew as a parent you know when your child is not right.
It disappeared for a while then the teacher took us aside and said she has noticed this limp, so took her back to the dr's NOTHING again, then my brothers wife took her to A&E they finally refered her to a specialist at the local hospital.

Today was the appointment, they asked a few questions and checked her HIPS (I thought it was her knee), they sent us down for a x-ray.
And then asked us back to see what it had showed.
It had showed her right hip is normal and her left hip is to my eyes it was deformed. :(
He explained he iis only a doctor for older patients and younger children arent is speciality but he said it was "Perthes Disease".
He didnt really say much after that just its common in 4-10 year olds and its mainly common in boys and not girls.
He has written off to a specialist in Booth Hall Childrens hospital for further testing, and to see what it shall need.
He did think it may need a splint and maybe when she is 40-50 depending on how bad the bone has gone she may need a hip replacement. :(

I'm so upset I feel like ive come out not knowing whats going to happen, and she is so scared.

I've read online that it is something to do with the blood supply to the bone, and the bone temporarily dies, it then take 6-12months for new cells and then 2-3years for the bone to regrow.
The earlier its detected the better the chances.

I suppose its just waiting and hoping the appointment comes a.s.a.p.

It is very painful when it occurs and they suggest bedrest, and pain killers, I feel Numb shes been in this pain since last year!, on a website they explained simple things like stepping off a kerb can cause such pain :(

Sorry to rant on.

{{{{HUGS}}}} Beth.

I can understand how upset you must feel - give Chelsea as much reassurance as you can and write down your questions as they come into your head.

Sending you a PM.

Beth,

I’m very sorry to hear about your trouble. It’s awful when there’s anything wrong with your child, you would give anything to be able to take away their pain. I’m afraid I’ve never heard of this disease so have no words of wisdom or advice just wanted to let you know that I wish poor Chelsea better and soon. Hope you get that appointment very soon.

Take care
Annmarie

I'm so sorry Beth.

Best wishes to Chelsea and please keep us informed.

It's only natural to be worried, but I hope that you'll be reassured just knowing that at last the problem has been acknowledged.

:grouphug:

Thanx everyone.
Thanx Shirley for your PM :)

Chelsea has just left for school, with a limp, she looked in pain, I really dont want her to go to school,But I've told her to be careful and sit as much as she can, etc.She loves school,so keeping her off would be like I'm punishing her.

Thanx everyone,Will let you know what happen's.
The Hospital has already typed the letter up and sent it to Booth Hall Childrens Hospital.

Oh Beth - I was so upset for you reading your thread. Poor little Chelsea, it must be a little daunting for you all, but she's otherwise a very well and happy little girl, so you'll get through it. At times like this the children seem to cope better than the parents:rolleyes:

Good luck with what the diagnosis and treatment will finally be - keep us posted?

Big HUGS to all three of you.

Annie -x-

Oh, Beth, I do feel for you. As Ann-Marie says, when your child is ill or in pain you just wish you could bear their suffering for them. Try not to fret and pass on your worries to Chelsea - it sounds as though she's coping really well.

Beth

A friend of mine has been through this with her son over the last 3 1/2 years! And he's just been given the all clear - saying that all the bone has regrown as it should have done! So don't be too despondant - this can work out well!

He was given lots of exercises to do, was allocated a specialist and had frequent tests. He limped quite badly between the ages and 6 and 8 and then it became less pronounced until it had gone by the age of 10. He's now 11 asnd fighting fit!

Good luck!
