How does one go about getting an appointment for a haircut at the barber shop on Main Street? My DS wants to get his hair cut there....any tips appreciated!!

You can't make appointments. It is on first come first served basis. When my DH got his hair cut there in January he had about 3 people ahead of him and it was about a 20min. wait.

...my 10y-o DS would be 'too old' for a haircut and blue gel?? (he wants blue hair!)

When we went for my little guys first haircut the two people we had to wait for were teenagers and they did it so i don't see why your ten year old couldn't.

I'll let you know of the prices for the blue gel stuff when we get back. We are leaving in about 2 hrs for the World. :cool1: The first thing on our agenda as soon as we get there is haircuts. Hopefully it won't be too packed. My daughter is turning 3 and I have refused to get her haircut (except for Grammy trimming her bangs) until we could get her 1st haircut at the Barbershop. So anything you need to know, I will try to find out this afternoon.

We got DD's first haircut their in October. I went first and had a braid put in and go the gel and pixie dust. I didn't feel too old to get it done. I liked it and plan on getting it again in future trips. While we were waiting, we saw entire families getting the gel.
We had a long wait (45 min), we went shortly after the park opened, but DH took DD to see the characters while I stood in line.

DH (43) got his haircut along with the green gel and the pixie dust. Even got the green gel mickey head on the back of his head. He had a lot of fun with it all day.

Hi! :wave2:

I don't think you can make an appointment - I think it's first come first serve.
I'm hoping to have my boys get their hair done - I heard it's a great experience. :Pinkbounc

Hope you have a wonderful time!
Ely

No Appointments but definitely worth the wait! We never miss a trip to the barbershop for dh and/or my dad. My girls got their first haircuts there also. They are wonderful!

We have been getting our sons haircut every trip since he was 1.5. He just had it done last week. As others mentioned it is first come first serve. Our last 2 trips, we have been at MK at opening and darted to get his haircut. Last time (september) we got there first. On Monday...we got there 2nd, there was another mom that beat us there. She took off to get there before the rest of her family for sons 1st haircut (what any mom would do :0) ).
Haircut was $14.00 kids $17.00 adults and it is $5.00 for just the gel. If you get haircut, gel and pixie dust is included.

We just got back last Thursday. We went to MK on 2/3 and planned on getting my 20-month-old DS's first haircut there. We originally were going to do it on the way out of the park, but then when we got there I figured my son's mood would be better in the morning. We were there before the gates opened and walked right to the barber shop. There were already two people in the chairs (I think there were only two chairs, anyway) and one waiting. Fortunately, it didn't take long and it was such a great way to remember DS's first haircut. The barber gave him lots of stickers, which kept DS occupied throughout. We also got our certficate, mouse ears :earsboy: and some of his cut hair. It was so cute!

I was a little embarassed, though, b/c I had read in one of the guidebooks that they don't charge for the first haircut (which I thought was pretty generous). Of course, the book was wrong, and I think the barber felt more awkward than I did. I didn't mind paying at all, of course, b/c it really was a such a neat part of the day. He did a great job, too!

Anyway, I guess the point is that I would go as soon as the gates open b/c as we left the park at about 2:00, there was a longer line (not too bad, but this was a pretty slow day at MK anyway.) ::MickeyMo

What colors were the gel? And did the mouse ears come with the cut or extra? DId they say anythign on them?

TIA!

There was green, yellow and blue (maybe white, too) when we were there. For the first haircut, they give a certificate and ears that have first haircut on them...where the name would be.

Had my DS's cut in May of 2004. We were the first ones in, by luck, and it went pretty quick, but it also filled up very quick, so go first thing if you can. It was great...my pictures turned out on the dark side, but they are priceless. I'm doing it again in April I think.

...a few hours ago! My DS got HIS hair cut at MK yesterday. Boy, oh boy, let me tell you some pixie dust was DEFINITELY sprinkled on US!!1 Here goes:

My DS wanted to have his hair cut at MK, so we decided to forego his much needed haircut BEFORE the trip. Wednesday was our scheduled MK day, so we were going to head there first thing in themorning. Unfortunately, we were running late, so we didn't arrive at MK until about 10:30. Needless to say, there was QUITE a line in front of us, so we decided to head on over to Tomorrowland for a ride on Space Mountain, Buzz, COP, and decided to try again later. We wound up leaving MK, only to return later that evening - RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF SPECTRO MAGIC! Anyhoo, once the parade was over, we made a bee-line straight to the barbershop, but -DRAT- it was closed! :badpc: Knowing we had only a day left to shop for souvies for our friends and relatives, we headed for DTD. Not realizing the time, my DS wailed out, "We have to go to get my haircut!!!" OMG, what to do? :confused3 We were in "World of Memories" store (across from the Christmas store) and asked the CM if she knew what time the barbershop closed. She didn't know; no prob, she was on the phone in a flash, finding out. Okay, it closes 5PM - it's 3:22, so we have a few minutes to devour a sandwich at Earl of Sandwich, but now it's 4:10!! YIKES! :earseek: My DS and I RAN to the bus depot. Out of breath, we searched for the bus stop which will take us to MK. ACK!!!! There IS NO bus that will take us to MK!! So, we decided to hop on the next bus to the Contemporary and hoof it to MK.
The precious minutes were ticking away, when we FINALLY arrived at CR. It's now 5:47PM. We ran (or rather, walked REALLY, REALLY FAST towards the MK entrance. BTW, contrary to popular belief, it's NOT a simple hop, skip, and jump. It's 4:55 and, completely out of breath, I politely asked to the security guard at the exit, my dilemma, if he could please phone someone to see if the barber shop was still open [I didn't want to waste a day on our PH passes to go to the barber shop only to find it CLOSED!] He did so and told me that it was still open, but you had to have arrived at the barbershop by 4:30, so he let me through, telling me to go to the Guest Services booth (with 8 people on line) to double-check. Instead, I went to the entrance and stammered through the whole story again. The wonderful woman at the turnstile said that she couldn't leave her post, but she let me in anyway [sans the passes!] to see if it was still open.
Still hurrying [ and feeling a heart attack coming on!]we arrived at the LOCKED door of the barber shop! I guess I had such a pathetic look on my face, so the barber LET US IN!! My DS was the very LAST CUSTOMER - it really made his day, especially when he was sprinkled with Pixie Dust!! This experience is something, I know, he won't soon forget...... :teeth: !( See, Disney magic really IS alive and well in WDW!)

Thats such a cute and memorable story...

I can't wait to get DS(16 months) his first haircut there on Tuesday...(the most exciting part of the trip for me :bounce: (silly huh...)

Its great to hear that they are so nice and accomodating at the Barbershop though.....

WDW makes everything magical...even haircuts

:hourglass ONLY 30 hours left until we leave for WDW!!!!

Another little tid bit to add. Our son didn't want the gel/pixie dust in his hair when we were there in 9/04...so they filled...and I mean filled his little pocket of his shorts with pixie dust. When we went 2/05, they asked if he wanted gel and pixie dust and he didn't want it in his hair...but showed the barber his pocket. I mentioned why he was doing that...and she filled his pocket up again :0) It is the funniest thing, because all day long, he would go into his pocket and pull out a mickey piece of pixie dust and put it ontop of his head!!! :rotfl:

Can someone repost the pictures of the little girl with
the pixie dust hair-do? I want to show my DD. She
wants a princess-do really bad.
Thanks.

There is a pic of little DD at the Barber shop in my Siggy. I hope that helps as it won't let me post a pic to regular way (I don't know if that has anything to do with the HTML code)

Hope that helps!

Kelly
