We are going to disney florida next August. My wife is a teacher so we do not have a lot of choice, can anyone who has been there in August allthe guide books seem to suggest that we shouldn't go then, can anyone reassure us (first timers) that we will still feel it has been special.

Thanks

I would recommend going at the end of the month, if possible. Alot of the local schools are back in session by then. Crowds should be lower than say the beginning of the month.

We went the 3rd week of August, 2003 and have 2 little kids who were 20 months old and 5 yrs old at the time. The crowds were manageable certainly - I'd highly recommend Tour Guide Mike for trip planning (http://www.tourguidemike.com). It is hot but that really wasn't a problem. We got an unusual amount of rain too - storms that lasted from the early afternoon into the evening that shut down the pools and we couldn't take an afternoon swim many days....but I think THAT much rain is unusual.

I'd have no qualms going back in later August - I think the later you can go in August the better!

You CAN go in August and have a good time. Later is better, as many schools go back in August and the crowds lower considerably. Yes, it is hot and humid, very much so. But the parks have long hours(especially earlier on) and parades and fireworks can run almost every night. Guidebooks always recommend you go off season, the crowds are lower and in the winter the temperature is much more humane. However, a hot and crowded day at Disney is still a day at Disney. Many families also have no choice but to go during school vacation times, simply the way it is. Is it nicer offseason? Usually. Can you still have a great vacation in midsummer-absolutely! The recommendations are just that, however they all include tips for going in high season. Read up here for summer survival ideas, also check out www.allearsnet.com for more help. Don't panic, you can have a wonderful August trip!

We have used Tour Guide Mike twice for our trip to WDW and his information is very organized. He can help you get through the parks and avoid lines even in at the busiest times. Check it out at www.tourguidemike.com!

We also went the third week of August a couple of weeks ago. The crowds weren't too bad. I've definitely seen worse crowds during Spring Break week trips (2nd week of March). The weather wasn't a problem either. The occasional rainshowers helped break the heat. During March trips we've experinced more weather problems, specifically cold weather.
