I have Motorola T5420 radios with a 2 mile range. 14 channels/38subcodes. Will these be adequate or do I need to go for the 5 mile range ones? I am thinking about Castaway Cay as well as the ship.
We have the Motorola 6210 which we bought specifically for our first Disney cruise. They have a listed range of 2 miles with 14 channels and 38 sub codes. They worked fine onboard keeping intouch with DD & DS. We had a Cat 6 with the verandah which gave us the ability to walk outside to get a better signal. At Nassau, I was able to talk to DW & DD from our verandah (which was facing downtown) while they were shopping.
I have 2 mile 2 ways also. We were on Deck 7. They seemed to work o.k. until we got to the lower middle of the ship. They are fine on the outside and same deck inside. It seemed to never work when my wife was looking for me and I was at the ESPN sports bar. hehehehehe!!!!
we bought the southwestern bell GMRS 5mile range at sams. $59? (pair)
They were okay on the ship. Lots of static between floors, even in the high range. They can use low or FRS (2mile range).
They were perfect in the open space of Castaway Cay and much better than the FRS.
FRS from the beach to the ship were useless.
These have a pager feature which worked all the time. Since they have privacy codes, you know it's the other person and not interference. So head to the outside of the ship for better signal.
