Hmmm, might as well take my own poll. Thinking about it, I probably should've included an "other" option as well. You know, in case I left something out.
Interesting that so many say they are already rope droppers. If that percentage were representative of the guests as a whole, it would take about an hour for everyone who arrives by the opening time to get through the gates.
I am in the same boat. We usually stay "off-site" at the Dolphin (but have never considered that to be "off-site" until now) ). We usually try to make RD at DHS and Epcot, but not at the other parks. Now, with no ability to pre-book, and FP+ becoming more and more of a known commodity, I would imagine that if you are off site and want to ride TSM, you had better be part of the TSM Death March at RD. Get there a half hour late and you will have a 75 minute wait, and probably no ability to book a FP+ at a kiosk. Same at Epcot with Soarin' and/or Test Track. So now, as lowly "off-site" people, I have to convince my wife to get crackin' and entice her with the promise of relaxing evenings with wine and good food. Even then, it will be a tough sell. My DD "gets it". And it might be that we do Daddy-Daughter commando raids and meet up with Mom at 10:00.
So my poll answer would be: "Other". We are sometimes RD people, and will now make more of an effort to be so again, but only at certain parks.
My answer that we will still go at rope drop is also influenced by the fact that we usually go in September, and we go early as part of our strategy to beat the heat.
I put always RD, but our usual strategy is to have a character breakfast in the park before it opens (8am Crystal Palace for a 9am MK open for example). This has us in the park and finished usually by the time the park officially opens.
We always do rope drop but on our last trip in November we actually took advantage of late fast pass plus and slept in one day. We were at the park until 1:00 AM though and it was fantastic!!! I love the flexibility of being able to sleep in a little and still have a fast pass for our favorite attractions!! on our 9 day trip we did this once, but I may do it more in the future.
With limited FP+ options, I think RD will be as important as every high season with the new system. // It will be nice to have a few reservations, but I think most people like to do lots of headliners and have as short a wait as possible.
