One of the best strategies for waiting less in line is to arrive at RD. But lots of people want to relax on vacation and not get up early. I like sleeping in and relaxing, but I also dislike waiting in long lines. Over the years, we've developed a plan that works well for us.
It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but don't decide you hate it until you've tried it.
We alternate early RD days at parks with sleeping-in/relaxing days. Sometimes no park on those days, sometimes a few hours at a water park (lazy river vs. speed slides), sometimes late arrival at a park and spend the evening. Here's a sample itinerary:
Day 1: arrival - Check in at resort. Relax, swim, TS ADR for dinner, turn in early.
Day 2: Get up early and RD at a park. Maybe a midday break for a swim at the resort, return to park, dinner and some more rides.
Day 3: Sleep in. After lunch, go swimming, boating, DTD, etc. Turn in early.
Day 4: Get up early and RD at a park.
Day 5: Sleep in. After lunch, swim at resort and then head to a park for the evening.
etc.
You get the idea. Hit RD on park days. Being there early allows us to ride most things with little wait and we don't have to kill ourselves squeezing every second of the day in the park to do it. By alternating with non-park days, we get a chance to sleep in, let feet recover from lots of walking, and generally get recharged for the next park day.
There's no way we could maintain the stamina to hit RD day after day, but using RD on select days allows us to enjoy the best of both worlds.
