Do they "drop" the inner land ropes prior to the main RD guests arriving or do they wait until everyone from the main group arrives?

This will be our first rope drop since the sisters and the dwarfs arrived; trying to get an idea of what we're in for.

When I was there for RD a year ago, they first opened the main gates, then later (a couple of minutes after the first people arrived) dropped the ropes into Fantasyland.

No longer true. Now they walk people up Main Street, keeping them behind the rope. They're trying to avoid people running (and falling).

I can only speak to the internal rope between the castle and the carousel, but this past November they "dropped" it at the same time as the main rope drop. I say "dropped" because they actually walk you around the carousel and back to the Fairytale Hall line (though folks peeled off toward Peter Pan, New FantasyLand, and 7D as the rope passed those points). We managed to be through the Frozen sisters in 15 minutes thanks to an 8:05 ADR, a great table spot, and an amazing waitress.

This is different that what happen with us this past June. We had an 8:05 ADR and was out before parking opening. The CMs walked the crowd from the main gate up to the different lands and they held us behind a rope until the crowd from the main gate made it to our rope before they let us go. We had to just jockey for a place in the crowd as they were moving by. We did MK with an before parking opening ADR and once at the main gate early for RD and was headed to the mine train both times. Had the same wait time for both mornings.

We have an 8:00 BBB that morning so will be at the internal RD area hopefully no later than 8:45 (small package).

Going to keep my fingers crossed they "drop" that rope before the swarm of people from the main RD get there. I have dreams about standing there watching as the masses fill the Castle passage.

Though I keep trying we have not been able to score A&E passes yet, so this is out best bet at the moment.

@ksinniger, where there a lot of pre-RD people waiting with you in Nov?
