I was just thinking about trading pts with RCI. They seem to have lots of
restrictions too.

I don't think so, having traded my non-DVC week there rather successfully I might add. The key is to plan way out with either II or RCI, with my Starwood week in II I just put in an ongoing search for June 2011(trying for a pretty tough trade, but I should get something with a name brand 2br ski week).

With my non-RCI week I'm able to get online and search myself, which I do a few times a day. I had an ongoing search with the unit, but I had a couple of other locations and times that would take if they showed up.

I waitlisted for 2 Florida panhandle resorts (Wyndham and Escapes Tropical Breeze) about 5 months ago. I said I would take any size unit anytime from late May to early August. About a month ago the waitlist came through for a 1 bedroom in mid-July for Escapes Tropical Breezes. I was really getting worried nothing would come through so I was very excited to get that email!

At less than a year, I'd say you got lucky, at less than 10 months I'd say you got VERY lucky.

Not really but you need to understand what's going on and what is appropriate and what is reasonable to expect.

Just thought I would share my positive RCI exchange success story. I called in October and was immediately matched for 3 days on the Big Island and 7 days in Maui with my choice of travel dates in June. My friend and her family (also DVC members) called in the same timeframe and were able to exchange for the same resorts and dates so we can travel together! I was very sceptical that we would ever have a successful exchange to RCI let alone being able to travel with another family who is exchanging and getting the resorts and travel dates that we wanted.

I read this message board often (thanks for all the great tips!) and was very unsure to even try for an exchange. I think we got really lucky!

Well I called again today and talked to Disney for a good long time....at this time still nothing...they checked 1 bd, studios etc...his suggestion is to keep calling if I'm willing to take less than 1 week. And hang on....so for now I'm keeping my original request for a 2bd for a full week....but will take 2 smaller units for less than a week if they come up....keeping my hopes up! He also said that it was good we could travel at the last minute. We are driving down so airfare is not an issue. Maybe that will be our saving grace! May the mouse be with me!
