Use the Dvc List to see what is available THEN do your research to see details of resort.
Most are great since they have 10000 members them self.
Not sure I would equate current DVC with fine dining steakhouse. It is more like Outback than Peter Luger or even Ruth's Chris. But we've had some decent RCI. We usually use them when they are where we need to go, not as destination stay.
If you look at the cash rates Disney is still able to charge for onsite rooms including DVC villas, fine dining is the appropriate comparison in terms of cost (even if quality is getting spotty.)
But yes, if you are hauling some lumber or furniture, it might be worth trading your Lexus for an old truck for a day...
But unless you are trading out for Hawaii, you'll almost certainly come out ahead financially by renting points and using the cash for your alternative stay.
