RCI trade in questions

I did a search and it answered some of my basic questions (yes we can get Me, yes we can choose to get DDP...) But I have some questions on how some things actually work when trading for Disney that I didn't see.

We just bought a week, plus a bonus week (so 2 weeks) at a Gold Crown RCI in our state, that's ranked in the top 5 for RCI. Our week is Presidents Day week (11?). Honestly we don't plan on using our home resort very much, it's 2 hours from here and we were given the country club membership if we want to use the ammenities. Basically it's "day-trip-able". We got a great deal and plan on using it to visit other places - Disney, Europe, Grand Canyon, Caribbean etc. I know I have to pay a fee for the trade.

With regards to trading in to Disney

- we were told if we paid an extra $100 we could book the trade early - any experiance with this?
- are the treehouses at SSR available as trades (our unit is a sleeps 6 and we have a family of 5. Or a sleeps 12 if we use both weeks at once)
-will the reservation show up on the Disney website?
-can we book dining at 180+10 or will I need to do it every day at 180?

We're not new to Disney. We've stayed 11 times in the last 15 years and for a few years(2005-2009) I was a Disney TA. I'm just new to the time share thing.

Thx

go to RCI's website and plug your resort and week into the trade power calculator. if the number is more than 25, you can trade into DVC.

doesn't sound right.

RCI will charge you $179 to make the trade on the web ($199 if you call.)

you may need to pay $99 to combine weeks if the trade power of an individual week is too low. again, you need to get a trade power number above 25.

you ought to request a trade well in advance 12 months ideally but at least 7-8 months out...

but paying extra won't let you jump up in line.

not yet - i wouldn't count on them showing up anytime soon.

don't know about the other stuff.

you really should join TUG as it's more useful for non-DVC timeshare information...

It sounds like you've been given sales speak. Do you know how to tell if a timeshare salesperson is lying? Their lips are moving! Well it's not quite that bad but pretty close with most companies. If you bought to trade and aren't sure, cancel if you can and do so now. It's extremely unlikely your resort is in the top 5 or even in the top 50. Chalee told you how to get the trade power from RCI of your unit. If you don't have your info yet, give us the resort and dates and we could get would look it up for you. The extra fee their talking about is likely RCI Platinum, I wouldn't put much stock in getting DVC early with this additional yearly cost. RCI will only have what DVC deposits, don't expect the best resorts or 3 BR units or even peak times to have much or any availability.

Dear OP,

I'm copying Dean's post with my comments added to his quote:

If you bought to trade and aren't sure, cancel if you can and do so now. [bwvBound: I agree -- cancel NOW if you can.] It's extremely unlikely your resort is in the top 5 or even in the top 50. The extra fee their talking about is likely RCI Platinum, I wouldn't put much stock in getting DVC early with this additional yearly cost. [bwvBound: That was my first thought also. FWIW, I haven't read any TUG sightings showing that RCI Platinum provides an early jump on DVC deposits.] RCI will only have what DVC deposits, don't expect the best resorts or 3 BR units or even peak times to have much or any availability.
