Has anyone ever exchanged their timeshare week through RCI on a cruise and how it works? Thanks! my SIL have is and thinks she can do DCL. thanks for all the useful information

hmmmmm I have RCI and have seen the info re cruises. The deals I see are mostly for Carnival and a few RCCL. I have found the deals marginal at best. You don't do a straight trade. You pay a fee per day on what I've seen.
I can't recall seeing DCL but then again I stopped reading alot of the emails I get from RCI re cruises as I found them to be a poor deal.

Cheers,
Grumbo

DCL is only available through DVC. RCI cannot offer DVC timeshare units or Disney cruise ships, something that is the basis of a deceptive trade practices lawsuit I am filing against a timeshare company affiliated with RCI.

You can book any cruise through RCI and after depositing your week they will give you a certain amount off. i haven't done it YET. But I was just thinking about it for 2005 when I came upon your post. Would like to hear how much they give you off on a deposited week.

I just posted about this on the DCL Withdrawals thread. I had hoped for a decent exchange rate (maybe worth 75% of cruise fare, with 25% out of pocket) but was disappointed in the example exchanges I saw through II. Obviously it depends on the trading power of the timeshare and the selected cruise, but it seems better to rent the timeshare and pay for the cruise separately.

After you take into consideration the maintainance fee of the week used ($400-800!) plus the exchange fee ($149ish) plus the daily "All Inclusive" fee (food) per person - it is not considered a good deal by many.

You can end of spending more then if you just booked the cruise yourself.

We aren't RCI owners, but can trade into RCI (we own with HGVC). We can use our HGVC points to book DCL, and that's how we booked our cruise that's coming up in 4 weeks.

HGVC actually contracts with a travel agency that specializes in booking cruises (probably something along the lines of DU). I used roughly 13,000 HGVC points (we get 7,000 a year) and $200 cash to book our room (cat 11, 4 night Wonder).

We have Interval International. We own two weeks with the Marriott Corporation and can trade through II. I wonder if DCL is on there list for cruise ships??? I will have to check it out. I know that in the II book they do have some of the DVC sites. My girlfriend got the boardwalk in August with her trade. She lucked out!! Gail

We went through RCI to book our 1st cruise w/DCL. We got a $500 discount against a 3 day, off season cruise for 3. Not a great deal. Once we were on board we booked again and got the 10% discount + $200 credit. It came out about the same. RCI does NOT trade DCL cruises. You can only do "resort" Disney vacations through DVC. Go through a good TA and you will come out about as good as with RCI.
