We just bought our Aulani resale and we found out 47 of the points are bank from 2019, (a big surprise to us) so we must use them by Dec this year. We will not travel on a plane or leave the state till my son is vaccinated, we were just planning on banking all the points for our next year trip in July. So we are thinking of using these points in the RCI program and doing a local Colorado resort. How do I make sure when booking that it comes from the banked points and not the new points? Also are DVC points equal to RCI, so 47 DVC is 47 in RCI? What is the process to do this, I tried looking at the system and it is hard to navigate. Should I just call to do this? If so do I call DVC or RCI? Is there anything else I should know that I did not realize to ask?

Points must be specifically moved to RCI and you don't book via the DVC site.

No. Due to its nature as a trade facilitator, RCI has to assign a trading power to individual resorts.

You do need to call MS to move points to RCI so that is probably where you should start.

If the contract did not mention your points were in banked status and indicated they were regular points, contact your broker or title company.

The contract should have stated that and somce it didn’t you should ask for some compensation since the 2020 UY points are receiving is now not accurate.

Yep we are in process of that not sure what is a fair ask though.

We have booked into RCI with DVC points a few times. I don't know what went on behind the scenes with transferring or converting, etc. But, we just called member services, told them where we would like to stay and they booked it. A time or two the specific resort was not available but there was another in the same area.

I agree the sort feature on RCI could be more user friendly but from the DVC home page, go to Destinations, scroll down to RCI. For Locations click on US Mountain. The list is huge so I usually go to MAP (upper right) to narrow it down. Quite a few come up in Colorado.

You may get also look at Disney Destinations, there are a couple of Colorado resorts there.

47 points are not going to go very far at all for Disney Destinations or RCI.

I'm pretty sure you need to transfer multiples of 10 so you'll either transfer 40 and lose 7 or you can borrow 3 to get to an even 50. I don't know if you can transfer the exact amount if you're doing the exchange for a specific stay vs just transferring them for future use. Might be worth checking things out to see how many points you might need. I think the points can also be extended up to 24 months if exchanging to RCI.

Have you thought about just renting the points? If you don't really see anything you like with RCI, maybe you could rent them to reduce your initial cost.

I think there is a difference between transferring points to RCI for unknown future use and using DVC points to book a specific current RCI reservation. We've never done the first, only the second, and were charged only for points used.

Keystone starts at 26 points/night and most RCIs in area start at 80/week. Some of those probably available nightly but it's hard to tell til you call in to make reservation.

Yeah, without also posting the math/analysis demonstrating that the viewpoint comes from very sound reasoning, I can see why some folks might offhand discount an FYI/heads-up post. (The analyses here have not been about belief, nor opinion, but fact-figures based reasoning.) Their dismissal shows what newbies they are to the comprehensive adjustments over time regarding point requirement/ management.

It's important to add, however, where this thread and DVCManagement (till just recently) existed in the land of belief and opinion, was whether the management was justified and allowed to conduct the point chart requirements in the way they have. The figures themselves were not at odds, if I understood all the conversation recaps correctly, the allowability was.

Thank you very much for calling attention to this on other media platforms. The more people doing the analysis to double check proper stewardship, the more we are closer to an "Owner Advisory Board" as Zavandor recommended, regardless of official designation.

We are looking into both renting and RCI. Renting is much more strait forward and I understand that process more.

You can actually book RCI online without ever calling member services.... We have done so a few times. Just click the how to book RCI link under book a vacation. It will tell you how many points are needed for your stay and if there are any cleaning fees, etc.

It is very easy to book online. We had points that were expiring last fall and didn’t want to fly this spring without vaccinations so we booked a few weekends last fall and this summer close to home in MA and RI.

I was just looking for MA/RI resorts today. anywhere you’d recommend?

Don't you have to call MS to move the points to RCI tho?

We stayed at Captains Quarters in Falmouth last fall. It was great. The unit wasn‘t as nice as DVC but it was fine And the location couldn’t be beat. Right across from the ocean. The location of all three innseason resorts in Falmouth look great - 2 are across from the water and the other is on the harbor. We have 2 weekends booked this summer at these resorts and one this fall in Newport at the Bay Club. I have never stayed there but it’s right in downtown Newport.

Nope, the online system does it automatically when you book.

You do need to call MS if you simply want to transfer the points to RCI without booking a reservation right away.

You also have to call MS for any modifications or cancellations of RCI.
