rci question

I can see Harborside III, with a late August bonus week in Arkansas that only pulls 88,500 results, but only for December 2009. I can see lots of gold and silver crowns, but nothing for summer.

My slightly better week 31 at the same resort pulls a little over 105K, and I get November and December 2009 at Harborside III. Go figure...
Goes to show you how subtle differences in trade power can be. You might find a 4th of July week would do even better but likely not as good as what Brian and I have used in reporting. Lead time to deposit is also important, you need to make sure you're at least 10 months out.

Thanks so much for all of your tips. The search was deposited Feb 2009. Hopefully something will show up. We have an ongoing search going. I was unaware that if there is a match to a search that it would never show up as available, so hopefully that helps us.

A second question, when I look at RCI from dvc, there are a very limited amount of resorts that show up. Like only 250 total resorts in USA, how come?

DVC filters the set to those it considers "equitable trades"---purportedly to make sure that Members are only exchanging into resorts that are of comparable quality or have some other redeeming factor.

I don't want to burst anyones bubble.....However, I have been a member of RCI for a couple of years and have yet to get anything I have requested.
On the other hand, I have been called by phone from RCI and asked if I would be interested in RENTING the same thing...... I have a request in for.

I believe that some kind of suit is going on..... for this.:confused3

If you check out RCI... DVC properties are for rent now.... almost as much as you would rent at rack rate at Disney itself.:sad2:

They match ongoing searches before they go online for everyone, at least in theory. When you looked at the deposit, how many resorts did you see? What are you actually searching for at this time?

I usually deposit as soon as I've paid my MF on 1/1. For my week 31 (usually the first week in August), that's only 7 months out. Do you think it would make a substantial difference to pay MF a few months early? It certainly wouldn't be a problem--it's just something I'd never thought about. My ex has a February week, and I told him that he would probably need to pay MF & deposit a year in advance to be able to exchange it.

For that week I definitely think it is worth paying the fees early to deposit earlier. Try it and see next year and see for yourself.

Thanks, Dean. I'm putting it on my calendar as we speak :goodvibes

Rocky- You have stated something that my husband and I have been discussing for the past few years.
I looked at the RCI website and see LOTS of units for rent. I'm sure "Disney" isn't giving them the units for rental. Those must be DVC member's deposits, being funneled to the "for profit" section. Shameless.

Conventional wisdom is that it will probably help, and almost certainly won't hurt. As may have been mentioned, you don't want to deposit too early---right around a year is likely to be best.

I'm sure "Disney" isn't giving them the units for rental.
In this instance, I'm afraid you are probably wrong. If you read the resort details carefully, you'll notice that exchange guests set up Magical Express with Member Services. Rental Guests use the WDTC/CRO web site.

Because the two use different reservation number formats, this is almost certainly cash inventory.

As an aside, there is a lot of inventory available for exchange, in both Weeks and Points---more units, larger units, and in better times than we were accustomed to seeing in Interval.

I see , thanks for the info.

I don't know if this is on topic, would we be better off renting our points and taking the cash and booking a nice hotel/condo vs. trying to make a trade with RCI? We would like to take a year off Disney and thought we would try something in RCI, but it looks way to complicated.

Just got our call today and we got a 2BR at Sea Pines Plantation!!! Anyone ever stay there, it looks nice!!

The old II listing for this group of units when they were with Marriott is
Sea Pines Plantation includes several kinds of accommodations in different buildings and a variety of settings. Vacationers may stay at Ketch Court (MKC), Night Heron (MNH), Plantation Club (MPC), Port Villas (MPO), Racquet Club (MRQ), or Twin Oaks (MTO).
They are individual condo's stuck in and among whole owned units in the developments noted in the II description. I'm not certain that all have joined RCI but would expect they did since they are under one management. They have been separated out in II so it's not one listing. Their locations vary but most are not walking distance to Harbour Town or the beach.

I was expecting Marriott, Hyatt level places, not cockroach motel!
If this is your expectation, you will likely be sorely disappointed in these options. They are all 1970's to early 80's condo's and look it. All are dated to a degree. IMO it's a good choice if your goal is to get HH during a good time of year. Sea Pines in general is a great location. To compare, I'd list Monarch about 8.5 and these units about 6.5 on average.

Thanks Dean. Our main goal was to stay somewhere central to a lot of things and at a great time of year. I don't want to stay in a dump, but we won't be in our room a ton. I was starting to worry we wouldn't get anything.

I don't like that you can't see pictures of the rooms.....

It wouldn't help you because there is no one representative resort or unit. TUG has reviews and some pictures. We looked at Condo's for purchase (wholly owned) in 2006 at some of those locations but didn't find anything we liked well enough at the time. We may look again this summer. It may not be Motel 6 but if you think a 30 year old Holiday Inn, you'll likely get a good representation.

Thanks for the info. I understand the quality isn't that good. My sister went ahead and accepted it. We were afraid nothing else will come up.

Have her keep looking. Once you're inside the 45 day window, getting a second match requires less points so if you can get a top option, it may be worth getting two. We've use this approach many times, esp to cover a 9 day stay with 2 units. I don't think you'll be dissatisfied given you know now what to expect.

Her trades are on weeks not points. In your opinion, what are better resorts on HHI thru RCI??
