RCI question from someone who knows NOTHING

I own at DVC and have no problems understanding how it works.
My brother owns a timeshare somewhere in Myrtle Beach which I know absolutly nothing about. He got it in the divorce and hasn't used it at all since, but they had two and they split them. Had I only known 6 years ago I would have been taking more trips to the parks, such a waste. lol
He has a week that he hasn't used and has no plans for using it at all this year. He offered it to me if I pay all the fees etc for booking.
I want to transfer it to somewhere near WDW for around Dec 28 through Jan 2 or 3. this is midweek, Wed or Thurs through Tues or Wed.
I looked up RCI and they have all the resorts listed but I have no idea how or what I have to do.
My brother has no patients so I have to get all the info to give to him for him to make the call, he won't want to call back or deal with decisions at all.
Most of the resorts say booking Sunday through Sunday. Is there any that you can book mid week?
Which resort would you recommend?
I would love to try Bonnet Creek if they are RCI. I see all of Disney DVC resorts are listed but I bet they are hard to get during NYE.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions they can offer me? Thanks

If your brother is in RCI Weeks, chances are good you will not find a mid-week to mid-week stay. That is often possible in RCI Points, but it sounds like Weeks from your description.

You are also asking about what is easily the most in-demand period in Orlando year-round. Your brother's timeshare would need to have excellent trade power. (Most do not.)

Finally, it is probably getting to be late to book Christmas 2011.

A couple of suggestions:

It doesn't sound like your brother uses his RCI online account, but if he is registered you could ask him for the password. The entire thing can be booked online by you without bothering him at all. He would just have to change the password when you are done.

Once online you will be able to see what the Trading Power is for his week, what power is required for the resorts you want on the the week you want, and if any units are available (availability does change over time). You can also setup a search to let you know as soon as something becomes available. As Brian says above though, don't count on DVC becoming available.

I would also suggest that if you need Thurs-Wed that you consider renting an extra night at a resort that does that. We own at Sheraton Vistana and they do rent unit out "hotel style" as well. Their weeks run Fri/Sat/Sun check in, so you could exchange for a Fri-Fri and rent an extra night on Thurs through Starwood. You need to get on this right now however - you are looking at one of the most popular weeks in Orlando.

does it trade through RCI or might it be afiiliated with II?

timesharing generally works better if you plan 12-18 months in advance. while some resorts have midweek check-in, most just have weekend check-in (including bonnet creek). looking for a midweek check-in will seriously limit you.

you should be able to look up what check-in options are available on the RCI/II resort directory.

i would agree that to find any availability, your best bet would be to get access to the RCI website membership and put in a request for a reservation (if anything is available, you can book that also but what is showing as available will mostly be the leftovers that no one else wanted). you would have to pay to request the trade. if it comes through, you would also need to pay for a guest certificate as you will be using the trade and not your brother.
