hi i was wondering if there is a RCI forum anywhere. i went to book the carolina grande in myrtle beach for july 2010 and its not available, so they put me on a waiting list. just wondering if theres a forum or if anyone has any views on this place and myrtle beach, we have never been. thanks . i hope im in the right place. thanks

I have stayed at CG and it is very nice. Across the street from the beach with a small pool but shares amenities with the Best Western across the street. It is solely a BG resort and as such, cannot be reserved more than 11 months in advance. It only has 1 and 3 BR units and only has Friday and Sunday start days. I'd say the chances of getting CG for July 2010 are slim to none with RCI, actually pretty slim for BG members reserving directly unless Premier members as a minimum. If you want a 1 BR, I'd consider Sea Glass across the street as it's ocean front and BG currently only deposits the larger 1 BR unit there, which also tend to have the better views, last I heard. Personally I'd try to find someone to work a direct trade for the Marriott. For a 2 BR, I'd consider Shorecrest I in North MB. I know Wyndham has several resorts in the area but don't know any of them.

Tug is a good option, for BG, the yahoo BG groups is likely better.

c&k, I'm not sure if you understand how the "waiting list" works with RCI. It's not like the DVC waiting list. With DVC (and other timeshares where owners reserve internally), the entire resort's inventory is available to you as an owner. So if there's nothing available when you call, you're put on a waiting list and when other owners cancel their reservations, the waiting list requests are considered and another owner is offered the reservation. This is not the way it works with RCI (or II).

The resort's entire inventory is NOT available to RCI requesters. The management company (in this case, Bluegreen) makes the entire resort's inventory available to Bluegreen owners. Summer inventory at Myrtle Beach is heavily requested by Bluegreen owners (think DVC HHI in summer). It'd be extremely rare for a Bluegreen owner to request a Myrtle Beach summer week for deposit to RCI. So RCI gets little to NO prime summer inventory from there, just as RCI gets little to NO prime summer inventory from DVC's HHI resort. Your "waitlist" is one of literally hundreds, if not thousands, of ongoing search requests that RCI gets for prime summer beach weeks on the east coast.

If you're trying to trade to Myrtle Beach, consider making your search request broader in dates and resorts requested. Resorts which are not part of a large points-based system (like Bluegreen or Wyndham) are more likely to have deposits with RCI. Or look at Dean's suggestions again for making alternative plans. Wyndham provides RCI with deposits from their Myrtle Beach and North MB oceanfront resorts for check-ins through the 3rd weekend in June and not again until the end of August - all done about 8-9 months out and never sooner than 10 months out. Bluegreen is probably similar. Marriott trades with II, not RCI, so would require a direct owner exchange. Sheraton has a couple nice resorts in the general area too, though they're not near the beach. HTH.

Myrtle beach in July is a very tough trade. July is the busiest month for vacationers and also the highest demand.

Good luck in your search!
