So, I booked a beautiful Hawaiian honeymoon for my daughter last year and it was perfect through RCI. When it came time for her sister to marry, we were all set to do it again. Last January, my daughter and soon to be son-in-law decided on Paradisus Parma Real. I paid the deposit and didn't think anything of it (we were on a waitlist), in fact, I totally forgot about it. Well, as the year passed, DD decided to change her plans to Europe. I forgot to cancel the waitlist and now have a week at Paradisus Parma! I will have to cancel it, and my points will still be in RCI. What a major pain! Hopefully DD can find a place in Europe to use them. Make sure you really want to exchange your points before you do it. There's no going back!

Any time you trade points outside the DVC resort system, whether to RCI, Concierge Collection, Buena Vista Trading or Disney Collection, they are permanently committed to the trade collection and cannot be reclaimed by DVC.

I knew it at the time, but totally forgot about being on the wait list. So, I know it's my fault, but it stinks anyway! I won't be doing that again!

Couldn't you try selling the week to an interested party? Anyhow it's a thought. Good luck and thanks for the post.

Good luck with the Europe search, I am not impressed with the choices.

DD decided they want to float from city to city in Europe, so I think the exchange will be out of the question for her. Renting out the exchange won't be likely as it is an all inclusive resort, so there's is a hefty fee involved also. Sheesh! I'll be glad when she gets married and becomes HIS problem :rotfl:

Also, RCI exchanges, according to RCI, are not supposed to be rented out. We do not allow it to be done here on our DIS Rent/Trade board.

If I were you, I would try to find an exchange that you and your husband & immediate family would like, and go with that.

Well, called MS today and have a happy ending! We traded for a week at Easter to a resort near us in Wisconsin Dells! It's not as fancy, or luxurious, but we're very happy! :)

Great, I'm glad it worked out as well as it could.

I'm not seeing a resort in Wisconsin with "wilderness" in the name. Is there another name? Regardless, looking for a single resort or time with the idea that if I get it great, if not, no big deal, is a valid approach using DVC. However, it is not a recipe for successful trading. While DVC tends to trade relatively poorly and is an expensive tool for trading, it is possible to be successful much of the time with proper planning.

I believe it's actually called something like "Wolf Lodge" or something like that. It does resemble Wilderness Lodge.

I wasn't aware that the Great Wolf Lodge was a timeshare resort and can't find it in RCI or II, is there another name?
