Hi-I'm "renting" at the Boardwalk this summer. The person I'm renting from is using his week through RCI. He said after he puts the reservation in my name, I can call and ask for the Disney Dining, that he can't do it because he's not a DVC owner. Anyone have experience on this??

if RCI finds out he is renting an exchange, they might just cancel it out from under you...

assuming it works out, there is an additional $95 fee paid to disney by RCI exchangers and then yes, exchangers can call and add the dining plan.

but renting an exchanged week is more risk than i would take...JMO.

Agreeing 100% with chalee94. RCI's "guest cert" is not intended for renting the reservation and RCI can cancel the reservation if they so choose. Aside from that risk, and hassle of working through DVC Member Services on an inbound RCI exchange -- yes, RCI exchange guests are permitted to add the Dining Plan to their reservation. The $95.00 exchange fee is now collected at time of check-in.

thanks! I've rented through DVC owners before, and got the guest certificate with our names etc on it-will the one through RCI be different than the one I would receive if i rented through an owner? Just wondering how Disney would know to question the certificate-
Thanks!
Lynn

disney doesn't have (much of) an issue with DVC owners renting reservations from time to time. (BTW, yes the confirmation will be different and if you rent from an owner, there is no $95 fee.) disney isn't the issue.

RCI is the issue. from what i understand, renting out exchanges or getaways is against their rules. (from what i see on ebay, enforcement is probably a little erratic.) but i am aware of exchange companies terminating membership and canceling reservations in this sort of situation...so this is just a heads up. renting an RCI exchange for DVC is very different than renting from a DVC owner.

There are so many DVC owners renting points, that I would never take the risk of renting an RCI exchange and having the reservation cancelled.

Should you decide to chance it, be aware that as a renter, you will not be able to add the dining plan yourself. Member Services will speak with the RCI member, since he has the reservation. They won't speak with you.

Tossing a link to the RCI Membership Terms & Conditions into the conversation for reference:
http://www.rci.com/CDA/Common/Documents/TermsandConditionsofRCIWeeks.pdf

Section 14 deals with Guest Certificates and their use, restrictions and the consequences of breaching the Terms & Conditions. While enforcement has been historically erratic, there are several reports on TUG of canceled reservations and suspended RCI memberships.

Agree with the renting issue. However, as an exchange, you can get the DDP. It must be for everyone in the party for all 7 days, no exceptions. It must be added up front, which you can do with DVC Member Services directly once it's in your name.

Thanks all for your help/advice! I really appreciate it-from what I've tried to research on the web, is that an RCI member can't transfer a reservation for profit, but can "gift" it. Let's say I go ahead with this, get the certification/reservation-how would Disney know if it was a gift or not? Or if I'm understanding it correctly, it's more of RCI finding out-and if they do, they can go ahead and cancel the reservation? Starting to sound a little risky-what if the owner tells RCI that the reservation he's requesting is a gift-they (RCI) wouldn't know if it was a gift to me or if I paid for it. Oh boy!!

There are those that actively report such issues to the exchange company including some on DIS. Since your involvement was honest you could either ask for a return of your payment of hope for the best realizing most of the time it'll work out.
