RCI advice needed...

Admittedly I am a terrible DVC member and I know little to nothing about RCI. We have used our points for multiple Disney trips every year and been completely happy. But, here we are. We are going to have 230 points to use by 11/30 and not sure we can make that happen. How many points do we need to place with RCI for a trip to Italy or Greece next summer? Is that a pipe dream as well? Please be gentle.

You would have to go to the DVC website and search for RCI options...there is a link that takes you there,

Since I have never used RCI, I don’t know what it costs to book anything...but that type of search will give you an idea!

What is your Use Year (UY)? When you say you have to use 230 points by 11/30, are those extended 2018 banked points? There has been no announcement on whether those extended points can be deposited into RCI if they are past the "normal" RCI deposit deadline. (banked 2018 extended points for June UYs are past that normal RCI deposit deadline.) August UYs have until June 17th to make a "normal" deposit into RCI.

If the 230 points that you think need to be used by 11/30 are from a source other than banked 2018 extended points, you may have more options.

Remember useing RCI means you have to wait for a RCI owner to post their timeshare for rent. What I mean by that is that you can not vacation when you want it has to be when an RCI owner posted the timeshare for rent at the resort you want to stay at. Rooms can be a lot harder to get with RCI.

We have booked with RCI a few times and never had an issue with waiting until an RCI owner puts their unit up. We just look for availability in the area we want. Once, there was no availability at our first choice but there were alternatives. Maybe we've just been lucky.

You can check online for availability, but there are very few RCI timeshares actually available in Italian cities in the summer. If you want Northern Italian ski resorts in summer or very southern Italy you can get something. Rome, Florence, Milan and Venice, to an extent, nada. I've used RCI for over 10 years.
You can also post on tug2.net on Europe forum to ask others in the know. TUG is s great resource for RCI trades. Elaine

What you need to do is go to the DVC member site and signin. from there you can log in to rci.

Once in RCI you can check the CURRENT availability in Greece and Italy. If there isn’t anything you like or the available dates doesn’t fit you then you can setup an ongoing search.

The CURRENT availability is Normally considered “leftovers“ as all the good Resorts and locations gets booked with ongoing searches way before they make it into open inventory.

DVC have one benefit in RCI which most other RCI users haven’t and that is that DVC have access to the registry collection which is a collection of luxury resorts. Downside is that a week will set you back 3-500 DVC points
