I have a rash which my doc says is most likely dermatitis. I originally tried Cortaid and a couple other OTC creams. Then he prescribed another steroid cream.

Seems everytime I apply something to this stupid rash, it gets more inflamed and itches more. I'm thinking I'm just going to leave it alone and let it dry out.

Anyone else have something like this happen?

I've never had any get worse, but I have had the creams not work.
Are you taking benadryl too? Sometimes that helps along with the cream. Or claritan if you'd like to stay awake.

I had a strange rash show up about a year ago. Dr at first thought it was some sort of staph infection...antibiotics had little effect, antifungals had no effect, and steriods didn;t help a lot, either.

Finally, she prescribed Elidel for dermatitis (eczema) and it was under control in a few days, now I use the cream about once a week and it works well.

The cream I'm using now is Fluocinonide. It just seems when I put it on, the whole rash gets redder and more irritated. I suppose I should give it a couple more days and see if my skin gets used to it more.

I just hate being itchy!!!!

Usually if it gets worse or with no improvement it's the wrong cream. Talk to the Dr if it doesn't get better soon, they may need to try another approach.

lol your fun :)

If the creams make it worse don't use it. The rash is reacting to something in the cream and that is not a good thing. It could be what the base is in the cream, or it could be the medicine itself.
I'd call your doctor and tell him/her what's going on. Maybe they can prescribe a different form of the medicine or just a different medicine.

DW had a strange rash appear on her foot a couple of months ago. She tried evefry kind of OTC remedy she could find, but it only got worse. After a couple of week it stared spreading to her hands. She went to the doc when it staretd to spread. The doc said it was brought on by stress! (DMIL is sick with cancer). We treated it with a) steroid cream supplied by doc, and b) a trip to WDW. Cleared it right up.

That's it!!!! I need to go to WDW - that'll clear this sucker up!

Usually I'm not into herbal remedies but after trying a cream the Dr prescribed for my bumpy, itchy elbows I had mom ask a person that uses quite a bit of herbal remedies. She suggested Sulphur Tar Salve. Granted it's scent is like a newly paved menthol road. I applied at night and it worked after just a few days. I found the website where mom bought it. Botanic Choice Maybe you can check out a book of herbal remedies at your library and find something specific for the kind of rash you have. Or visit a local store that carries herbal products.

I had bad eczema on my legs. They were itchy, red, and weepy. I finally went to a dermatoligist and he gave me a Rx for Fluocinonide also. It burned when I first put it on, but I just assumed it was because my legs were so icky. After about a week, the rash was gone and I haven't had a problem in several weeks now.

Thanks. Maybe that's it with me too. I'll hang on for a little longer with it. But man, I am SO itchy - it's torture to not scratch!

DH had a rash on his neck awhile back. He NEVER goes to the doctor for anything, but he finally did for this. The cream didn't help, so the doctor told him to go to the dermatologist. Wrong diagnosis on the rash, wrong cream to treat it!! If your family doc is the one who prescribed the cream you might consider a second opinion!

Yep. same thing happened to me several years ago when I had a topical rash due to poison ivy. What the cream did was spread the rash to wherever I was rubbing, so I had a larger problem than first appeared. Had to combat it from inside with an antihistimine to dry out. What I learned was that creams may dry the top layer of skin, but it won't get to the root of the problem.
