Rapunzel to enter Disney Princess Court

The Walt Disney Co. announced today that Rapunzel will become the 10th official Disney Princess at a high-profile celebration at Kensington Palace in London in October.

”Once Rapunzel becomes an official member of the Disney Princess court, she will be celebrated and recognized as such across Disney and will be included in all Disney Princess products featuring multiple characters, in addition to her own merchandise line. Plus, across all Disney Parks, Rapunzel will for the first time wear her royal tiara, stolen from the kingdom by Flynn Rider in the Tangled film,” said Mary Beech, vice president of girls franchise development and marketing at Disney Consumer Products, in a press release.

Rapunzel will be welcomed into the royal court on Oct. 2 by Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, Snow White and Tiana. In addition, celebrities and little princesses from across the globe will participate a procession through Hyde Park and party activities.

Independent charity Historic Royal Palaces has partnered with Disney to help stage the event to encourage children to explore the stories behind the real kings, queens, princes and princesses.

Rapunzel fans have helped put Tangled in the Top Ten biggest-grossing Disney movies of all time — ahead of Toy Story, Beauty and the Beast, Cars and Toy Story 2. Her story will continue in spring 2012 when the girl with the glowing hair will marry her true love, Flynn Rider, in a short-form Disney animation special airing on Disney Channel.

What about Giselle from "Enchanted"?
I would guess cause she gets married at the end of the movie but not to the prince.

Her father is a feudal lord under the Emperor of China. That would make her the Asian equivalent of a minor medieval princess in Germany (i.e. Rapunzel)

Giselle is not part of the Princess Court. The official Disney princesses are:

2. Cinderella
3. Aurora
4. Ariel

8. Mulan
9. Tiana
10. Rapunzel

I thought Mulan's family where commoners. Where is it mentioned that her father is a Lord? If it was part of the original story, I do not remember it being mentioned in the movie. As for Rapunzel, she is actually called Princess in the movie and her parents are referred to as "King" and "Queen".

Its implied in their home, the family temple, the keeping of a war horse and armor. Chinese commoners did not live like that.
