Rant/Vent Something like that---Smoking in playgrounds

Yikes!! Is that still the case? We are considering a trip to Vegasbut I wouldn't want to go if that is the case. Anyone been recently?
I go all the time (well, a lot). What specific areas are you asking about?

We stayed at the Excalibur Hotel on the strip-you might want to call and ask about their policies before you go.

Two years ago, yeah - but at one time, no. Smoking was allowed pretty much everywhere here.

And, even in Las Vegas - no more smoking in restaurants, and no more smoking rooms inside the airport :(

I'm actually glad to see things have tightened a bit. As a smoker coming from a state that is not very smoker friendly, I was psyched at first about smoking indoors....but the novelty wore off after a day or two when I smelled & felt awful:guilty:

You think that's bad? I quit smoking in, let's see... November 2005. Thirteen months, cold turkey. ONE afternoon playing roulette at the Orleans (and, okay, drinking :)) around smokers - and I was back!

But how is a smoker to know if someone is bothered if that someone never speaks up? That's what grates on me about the smoking issue, and I'm not even a smoker! Why go straight to seeking a law/rule/ordinance when a polite request would suffice?

Give me a break--why would ANYONE even consider smoking around a crowd of people-how can you not KNOW that it is offensive? My experience with smokers tends to be if you say something you get nothing but attitude back, which is pretty much what the smokers here are doing as well. I shouldn't have to ask for a smoker to move when I am not smoking, period. A smoker should remove themselves from the presence of any non-smokers to smoke.

Wait a minute, so I as a smoker, in a designated area should FIRST see if anyone is smoking?
I literally don't see me doing that, catching myself on fire? Yes, this? no

My experience is that attitude works both ways. "Hi, could you please not smoke around the children?", or "Hi, would you mind stepping over there away from the crowd with that cigarette?" is likely going to garner less 'attitude' than "Ugh, get that cancer stick out of my face".

We are not talking about designated smoking areas, we are talking about standing next to the bleachers full of non-smokers at a baseball game. Don't twist this around to anything else. If there is a designated smoking area, fine, then any non-smoker around that area has no right to complain but I should NOT have to move from the bleachers so you can stand next to them or worse yet, sit in the bleachers, so you can smoke.

Most of our area parks are part of a school and there is no smoking allowed on school property. Easy enough - if a parent or another by-stander is smoking while watching a ballgame, someone can just let them know that smoking isn't allowed. Same with the playground.

But if it's not posted "no smoking" - not sure what you could do....

Right. So is there a set policy on smoking in/around the bleachers? If not, why not? And if there is, why is it not enforced?

Having a policy or not is irrelevant, it is called common courtesy. This is the big issue I have with smokers-they have no manners when it comes to their smoking. I see people dumping cigarette butts out their windows, dropping them all over the ground, smoking in places they shouldn't but when you call them on it "where is the policy" "where does it say I can't smoke here". How about I sit next you at the game and stand on your foot the entire game. It isn't posted that I can't do that so it should be ok, right?

Why are you harping on the designated smoking area? You are the one that brought it up, not me. It wasn't even mentioned until you posted that. We are not talking about the same thing what so ever.
