Rant - Sequira Lodge May 2006

Whithin weeks of arriving home from the best holiday ever (10 Days at All Star Sports) my girlfriend booked us a trip to Disneyland Paris which was for my birthday in May. We usually stay at the Cheyenne but as this was for my birthday she wanted to do something special, the special was booking us a montana room at sequira lodge. We had a very pleasant drive over, it was the day of the champions league final and knowing(hoping) the Arsenal fans were going to be driving home very sad that same night made it seem a bit better.(sad int i!) So far so good.

So upon arrival we go to the check-in desk. Now, it was downhill from here. When we were being given our room keys and tickets and everything, the polite lady said that there was a slight bit of scafolding round the outside of the main building (which included our room), she then asked if we wanted a different room without the scafolding. We were a bit unsure until she said that we could go to the room and if we didnt like it we could come back and switch to another one.

So she gave us directions to get to the room, wrong directions we found in the end. She sent us round the outside of the building along next to the lake and through the doors which werent very far from where we were stood in reception. So after a 10 minute trip getting to our room dragging 2 suitcases behind us we were now knackered.(not very fit you see :joker: )

now we open the door and walk in....the room was big, but there was nothing in there...... a king size bed, a small table and a cabinet/cupboard thing which also housed the TV. The room was very unappealing.

So we head to the window, (my GF had made sure she booked a room with a view of the lake, im not sure whether she paid extra for this) behind the nets that didnt even cover the whole of the windows was scafolding, a lot of scafolding......also the scafolding was covered in sheeting, so we didnt actually have a view.....next thing we know there are now workmen outside our window.......which they can easily see in through as the nets were too small.

My GF phones down to reception and asks to speak to the person who dealt with our check-in and ask if we can move to a different room as agreed. "Sorry" we are told, "there are no other rooms available" :confused3

So she spent the next half hour to an hour argueing with them about what they are going to do for us. They said they could not move us until the next day, and that they would have to downgrade us to a cheaper/lesser room. After the negotiations had finished we decided to stay where we were. We were givin some of our cash back for our troubles (not sure how much) and could now start unpacking and get out to the parks. Whoops, i forgot....there were cracked, loose, sharp edged tiles on the bathroom floor and what seemed like a splatter of blood on the wall?

Anyways, this was our worse ever memory of Disneyland Paris. But apart from this the hotel was good. The breakfast and dinner area was clean and well organized, there always seemed to be a Disney character there for photos and there shop sold my favorite disney shortbread biscuits. It was in easy walking distance from the parks and Disney Village (pleasant walk too) and didnt seem to be very quite compared to the Cheyenne.

After this experience, we will just go back to the Cheyenne in the future.

Im not sure what this rant was to achieve, im not sure if it was supposed to help anyone decide on what hotel to book in the future, im not even sure if it was really necessary after getting compensation. Maybe i just needed to get it off my chest.

Ive been through our photos and found that i didnt take any pictures of the scafolding but im sure i have some on camcorder footage soo i will try and take a few stills and post them up later or tommorow. Hopefully you people didnt stop reading this at the second paragraph or less!! :joker:

Anyways......there it is. RANT OVER! :rolleyes1

That is such a shame - especially as it was a special occasion. :(

I'm sure if you love the Cheyenne, you will certainly want to stay there in the future. But don't totally dismiss Sequoia Lodge because of this experience - it can be a lovely place to stay.

Maybe i just needed to get it off my chest.

Fair enough - hope it's helped. :)

I'm sorry that your stay was less than magical. I saw pictures elsewhere (perhaps Marcus posted them?) of film over windows (I believe at Walt's) and comments about scaffolding.

While repairs and renovations do need to take place, it is frustrating when they impact on one's own vacation.

I hope that your next stay is better!

Hi

What a shame about the room and dissapointment can you get any compensation?

Hi stonfiesta, I do apologise, I have already posted after one of your posts and forgot to say welcome!

So here goes....Welcome to the DIS!!! :welcome:

Sorry to hear about your room :sad2: but I hope the rest of your holiday was magical! :wizard:

That's hugely disappointing for you. I stayed at the Sequoia last time I went and had a fabulous stay so I am going again there this time. It's so upsetting when things go wrong or don't turn out as you had hoped.

cheers for the replys. We still had a good time, it just took the overall shine off the trip if you get what I mean. I was still a nice hotel though.

By the way, our mini bar door wasnt locked, but we didnt have anything and wasnt charged either.

I always get ours unlocked, just in case. But when I look at the prices, I can't bring myself to take anything out of it!!

Ahhh we go to sequoia lodge tomorrow - anyone know if the building work has finished??

oh and hi btw

Welcome to the DIS newboy!! Have a great trip, and I hope the building work doesn't affect your visit in any way. :)

Well we're back and we such a good time.

Sequioa Lodge was brilliant - no sign of any renovations going on. All the staff were friendly and efficient. Avoided the breakfast rush by going for the 7.30 slots. Room was large and spotless. Went for the Montana Room with 2 doubles and lake view.

The Parks - Busy (but not packed to overflowing) but s'pose thats what you get for going in the last week in July - getting into the parks early and using the fastpass system meant we could get on more rides from 9am - 11am than we could in the whole of the rest of the day. Then just spent the afternoons mooching around and seeing the shows (or having a sneeky afternoon siesta) whilst everyone else was queuing for hours and it was to hot for that!

Only one small grumble - couldnt get in to see the Lion King Show - advertised as different showings in French and English. We went to queue at 7.30 for tickets for the 8.30 show. Got their at 7.30 got to the front of the queue within about 5 mins and it had sold out. Following day got to the ticket place at 2.30 for when the ticket office opened at 3pm but there was already people queuing for the queue!! No where in the shade to wait so didnt bother. Seems a really daft way to do things.

Highlights - Obviously 'Wishes' and the Fantilusion Parade (be warned the wishes firework display was cancelled on 2 nights because of rain/thunderstorms) loved Cinemagic in Disney Studios (went there 4 or 5 times)

A brilliant 5 days, with no problems at all. Loved it. .

All in all we had a fantastic time.

PS. The Disneyland hotel is now having some work done on it and some of the front as you enter the park is covered with plastic sheeting.

Thanks for your thoughts newboy, sounds like you had a grand time. :thumbsup2
