RANT re ECV's and comments form other "civilised" people

We were just there. most of the buses we boarded had at least 1 ecv. some had 2 and some had 1 or 2 getting off the bus. on average I would say, that this added an extra 10 minutes to each bus ride. we took approximately 14 bus rides. math= 140 minutes. my husband was very annoyed about this and a lot of people on line were also. the volume seems to be the real issue, I know about ADA and work with people with disabilities, but in addition to the time, we often stepped aside to wait for the next bus, because by the time it was our time to board, the bus was standing room only and with 2 small kids and a folded stroller it was an unpleasant ride. It's one thing to have people with disabilities board first, but it's another to have all of their friends and family fill up the bus first. Disney really needs to do something about this, because the situation is only going to get worse, once the word gets out that Disney is the friendliest place on earth for people with disabilities. In my opinion, it's more discriminating to have ecv passengers board in full view first over the general population, where they appear to be getting special priveleges.

How about next time if you don't want your able-bodied self and family to have to "wait" in line - go rent a car. WDW transportation is free and if the ecv/wheelchair user is there with their FAMILY or FRIENDS they should be allowed to stay together. The rule is the ecv/wheelchair user and up to 5 additional guests.

As for special privileges??? Are you kidding? They are boarded first for safety. How would you like you, your husband and your two small children on the bus while a ecv/wheelchair had to manuver into a spot. That is simply ignorant.

Also, you don't take into account how many busses we watch leave the parking lot because there is no room for my DBF while many able bodied people get to go back to their rooms. We appreciate the free transportation. While you wait to get on the bus for those precious minutes because of us, when we get to the destination you and your family are long gone before my DBF is even unhooked from the restraints. He might be first on but he is last off.

Needless to say I feel sorry for the people you work for.

Going to sleep now. Have to go to work tomorrow, helping people I don't feel sorry for. I have compassion for them, but try to help them find their strengths. Again, never said people on ECV should not board first, but sounds like you guys have a need to rant more than i do.

I tried to keep away from this but i can't i simply cant ignore these kind of comments....

You are sooo right!!!!
Yes it's very nice to have a disability and have special privileges.
That's the reason that we are disabled; only because we can get special privileges!!

Don't you think it's unfair towards healthy people and don't you think that it's discriminating towards healthy people that disabled people can get their special seating area for shows and attractions or special areas where they can watch a parade while you have to look for a spot where you and your family can watch the parade so long before a parade starts?

Don't you think it's unfair towards healthy people and don't you think that it's discriminating towards healthy people that disabled people in a wheelchair or ECV or stroller get to be able to sit down all day, how lazy are they, where did they find the nerve to do this while you have to stand in line and have to walk the whole day.

How dare they being disabled.....

Sorry they have to board them first for safty they are not giving them anything extra. if they world board everyone first then board the ecv there would not be able to get the ecv on. Sorry you had to wait ten min but i think it worth it so someone in a ecv can enjoy the the bus ride safly just like you can. Disney know about it and if they see the stop is busy they will send another buses to help. It the right thing to do everyone has the right to ride the bus safely. There no other way disney can load them then to do it in front of other guest the bus drivers do it in a way that respect fully to the person in the wheel chair/ecv/stroller. What specail priveleges are they getting that the general public dosnet get the chance to board a bus first or to go through the day and not have to feel like the ecv slowed them down if ohter transportion was like disney then people in wheel chairs would have a better time getting around. It not a priveleges to board the bus first it a right so for once they get something specail. For most part it not a choice for someone in a wheel chair i am sure they rather not be in the chair and board last then be in th chair and board first. And what so wrong "once the word gets out that Disney is the friendliest place on earth for people with disabilities" do you thing it fun or easy for people with disabilities i have one and i love the fact that disney is great for people with disabilities. I am not in a wheel chair but just knowing they go above and beyound for guest in wheel chairs it make me feel good. Your entitled to your opion but i am also entitled to disagree. I say it now sorry for the grammer and spelling tried my best but know i get someone saying something so please dont.

huzzzah, huzzah. Well said. Was going to post a reply, but you said it so well. Before Oct 2007, DS was above ave intell typical 17 yr old boy. Then he got sick and is now quad, in a wheelchair. Wish he never got sick....

Tell you husband and his messed up math to be happy neither of his kids need assistance and to thank his lucky stars that he doesnt need a wheelchair or an ECV. Have him find something else to be annoyed about because this makes him look like a big ole loser.

And thank god that your opinion doesnt count and that people who need assistance actually do find WDW to be the easiest and happiest place on earth. Actually talk to someone with a disability (instead of talking about them) and you'll find that WDW is one of the only places on earth where there lives ARE easier

Your husband's annoyance and your opinion show both of you in a very poor light and I'm guessing that this is an opinion your only willing to share because of the anonymity of the internet.

I'm almost 100% sure that you wouldnt have the spine to make these statements to our faces because you wouldn't want to hear the rebuttal.

The world is a big tough place. Find something else to be annoyed about and count your blessings.l

Really?? Did you ever think about the ecv users having to sit an extra 14 mins waiting for you to unload your 2 small kids and your folded up stroller? The ecv users are always the last to unload the bus but you never hear them complain about waiting. What you SHOULD be thinking is I am SO blessed to be healthy enough to be able to walk around disney with my children.

this thread is a train wreck......

Who cares about waiting 10 mins for a bus....you're at Disney World!!!!!!

BTW....I would want my posse to roll with me and not be split up.....get it?......roll....:moped::moped: :) :rotfl2:

If a 10 minute wait is the worst of your problems, I would like to be you.

Even 14 times. Jeez.

You just know that if one of their kids needed a wheelchair (I pray that doesnt happen) that their opinion would change drastically.

Walk a mile in someone else's shoes and then tell me about your wasted 140 minutes.

People amaze me.

pixie dust........

I guess wishing on a star isn't working.....:(

Wish I didn't live in a me me me world, the happiest place on earth shouldn't be about me me me, it should be filled with kindness and happiness.

I will happily wait patiently for the bus, and be understanding to all those who need assistance, and will smile when their familly members join them on the bus.

I will not make them feel guilty,

I have a healthy family, but if the day ever comes that I need to travel like this, I would want people to understand.

If you think differently, that only one person should go with the person on the bus, that you should be loaded first. I challenge you to spend one day in their shoes, travel disney like them and see how easy it is.

Here's hoping my wish works tonight.......

THinking peace Love and Happiness.

140 minutes.

Over a week?? A few days??

Think about this for one minute...

How many minutes does it take to get one chemotherapy infusion? How many minutes does a precious Mom and Dad sit by a bed and hope that chemo is working? They WISH it was only 140 minutes.

How many minutes does a child who is sick spend doing breathing treatments? In just one day. You would be surprised. Probably well over 140 minutes over the course of your vacation.

How many minutes does an adult with a disability invisible to the rest of us spend sitting in waiting rooms or going through painful tests hoping that some doctor somewhere can FIX IT so that they can WALK all over freaking Disney World????

How many minutes does the parent of a severely disabled child change diapers during the day. Change diapers. On their teenager. How many minutes??

Threads like this really disgust me because so many people JUST DON'T GET IT. And occasionally it gets under my skin.

I am sorry...I tried... But that comment just put me over the edge.

The saddest thing is this person doesn't seem to be a troll. Irritating as they are, I wish she was one rather than someone who really thinks like that. She doesn't just amaze me, she breaks my heart.

I have offered people to give them my personal ECV, which cost almost $3,000, as a gift. But they would also have to take all my infirmities which make it necessary for me to use it! For some reason nobody ever accepts that offer.

In my experience:

Rude guests in wheel chairs/ECV = 0
Rude guests not in wheel chairs/ECV = Way too many to count.
