Sorry folks . . . just have to get this off of my chest.

I have written NBC about their new program for this fall.

I feel as if this show is making a mockery out of couples that are unable to have children without medical help. Apparently, NBC, hasn't had to go to Doctor after Doctor wondering if they will be able to tell you what is wrong . . . the reason why you can't conceive a child. Then have those same Doctor's tell you that your only chance is IVF, and for what your problems are it will cost a minumum of $15000 for one cycle.

This show is poking fun at a fertility clinic, they "lose frozen embryos" are more worried about the "fun in the office, and that the patients are a casuality of their sexual tensions in their office".

I'm sorry, I have been going through Reporductive Endcronologists since 1998 and have been through numeorus test and surgeries with my husband by my side and this just struck a nerve in me!

Thanks for letting me get this off of my chest.

How do you know it is poking fun at it?

directly from NBC . . .

This delightful ensemble drama concerns one of the most complicated questions: to conceive or not to conceive. The doctors of the Family Options Fertility Clinic are on a noble quest to help desperate couples give birth. Except these doctors are often distracted by their personal quests involving sex, deception and secrets. Navigating through ultrasounds and super-egos, missing frozen embryos and impending malpractice suits, it's positively clear that life inside this clinic is anything but sterile. Cast: Ming-Na, Jonathan Cake, David Norona, Kevin Alejandro, Joelle Carter, Mary Catherine Garrison.

plus the preview on NBC about the show.

soo, it's making fun of the people who work at the clinic, not the people who go to the clinic.

hey, if it makes you mad, it makes you mad. you totally had the right to write a letter if you wanted to, and if anything, i hope it made you feel better. :)

I haven't seen the preview, but the write-up you listed doesn't mention anything about making fun of the patients, does it?

Do you have a link to the description of the show? I would like to see it. Is it exposing unprofessional behavior, or showing the process infertile couples endure? It might just be an eye-opener to a lot of people.

Speaking of unprofessional behavior: I sat with my premie daughter all day, every day for two weeks in the ICN. I was gong to use the restroom one morning and as I walked past the nurses station, I heard the nurses - with whom I had entrusted the life of my first born child - making fun of my daughter's name. I was horrified, and went to the ladies room with tears streaming down my face. I mentioned this to another nurse and she assured me she would tell her supervisor, but I wish I had taken it there myself. (Of course one of the main offenders was the head nurse on that shift).

I'm glad you wrote to NBC about how you feel.

:grouphug: for your ordeal.

Edited to add: I was typing while you posted the description. I was thinking the show was a reality-type show. Sounds more like ER in and infertility clinic, which doesn't bother me so much.

It's hard for someone that has not been to these clinics to understand what is going on.

I mean, losing frozen embryos . . . that embryo could be the one that would make a vaild pregnancy. This show, struck a chord with me, as I am sure it did to other couples that are going through fertility clinics.

This shows focus is on the staff, but it goes after the families that are trying to have children. I am still seeking help, and to see a clinic where the staff is anything but professional, is hard to handle.

If you have not been through a clinic like this or had to deal with the doctor's in these clinics then you really can't understand what my issue is with this show.

Wow, I totally agree with you and think this is a disgusting attempt at comedy. Even if the intent is not to poke fun at those who cannot conceive, I still don't see the humor. This is a serious and emotional topic for many couples and it seems thoughless to focus on some aspects of the process that may be deemed funny...i.e. lost embryos......Tifany...I wish you and your DH the best of luck :)

I spent 3 1/2 years working with an infertility clininc before Hannah was conceived, and have witnessed unprofessional behavior from medical personnel. But the show still doesn't bother me.

Hey I understand if it upsets you, but it doesn't sound like it is intended to make light of the couples trying to conceive.
Here's the magic answer - change the channel or turn it off.
It sounds funny to me - but I do tend to like off beat humor. And I love Ming-Na, even more in comedy situations than the stuff she did on ER. I'd give it a chance before condemning it just over the description.

Ummm, it's listed as a drama

I know it's a touchy subject for many, and I understand, but can people at least let one episode air before casting judgement?

Well reading the NBC site I see it is a drama and not a sit-com. I have a feeling that the description of the show may be worse than the show itself. I don't think they are making fun of the process. But if you feel badly about the show, then yes please write to NBC.

I have been in a clinic like this, more times than I can count, there were weeks when I was in my REs office twice a day Monday-Saturday. And I'm not offended by this show, I think it looks interesting, the first RE I went to I knew, my mom used to work for him, what you see up front and what you see behind the scenes are two totally different things.

I'm sorry you're offended by the write-up and preview of this show, but until you actually see the whole thing and see how it's presented I think it's a bit of an over reaction.

I have to agree with the majority of the above posters. It's TV! I don't see it as making fun of patients or the struggles of infertile couples. I looks to me like an ER kind of show, just based in a fertility clinic. I saw the previews and said that was a show I would like to watch!

And just for your information, I am currently seeking fertility treatments myself. And neither the previews nor the description for the show have upset me in any way. If you don't like it, don't watch it. That's how I feel about any show on TV...

Call me wacky, but I'm a believer in actually seeing a show or movie before condemning it.

I won't be watching, just the thought makes me ill.

I don't feel sorry for ANYBODY who is willing to go on tv and exploit their sexual/reproductive/medical problems for fame, symapthy and a quick buck. These people SHOULDN'T have children!
