I had a letter just over 2 weeks ago, saying that they were coming to my house on Friday 27th April -yesterday- to change my gas meter as it apparently needed to be changed. The times given was from 8am-8pm. well ok they have given me plenty of notice about it. so i stayed in all day,
by 10 to 6pm and still no sign of them, i rang and was told the engineer will be at your house you are on the list, he will be there.
Well he never turned up!! I wasted a whole day for nothing.:furious:
rant over-oh i feel better now !!

Jeanette, if you were expecting the engineer in July then it's no wonder he didn't turn up yest coz that was APRIL:lmao: Sorry to laugh if that was just a typo :flower3:

:lmao: it should say April:lmao:
got July on the brain as thats when we go away!!

That is appauling (sp) did they give you an explanation or compensation?

What a wasted day Jeanette, I would have been fed up as well:sad2:

Got out of bed the wrong side today:sad1:

I have no time at all with utility companies

call me a cynic but its only to be expected these

days. In actual fact we should write threads when

they turn up for their appointments. I think in

my opinion there wouldnt be many:rotfl2:

If we were to act like this were I work I would

be straight out of a job:confused3

That's reminded me we had a similar letter and they never turned up. I seem to think they were due just after Declan was born (I didn't take much notice as it when DH was on leave so I knew someone would be in!)

Declan turns 18 months next week and they still haven't been :lmao:

I'll have to dig out the letter

Jeanette - That is bad :( Now you will have to waste another day.

Jo - LOL! :teeth:

These companys just don't when things like this happen:headache:

I assume it was British Gas that wanted the meter replacing and not you...

Next time they say they are coming, make sure you are not there!

Yes theywanted to change the meter, infact its their contractors united utilities. I haven't heard anything ,but i will be phoning on monday morning and kicking some a**. I am not committing myself to staying in all day again, they will have to change the meter on my terms!

Oh the joy of British Gas and their meters. I think it's appropriate for me to tell you before I start that I work for one of our friendly neighbourhood gas and electricity providers but I'm not gonna say which one as i don;t want anyone to think that I'm trying to get them to switch to us 'cause we're brilliant. 'cause we're not.

The meter change they want to do is a recertification. Just means that the meter is getting in a bit and is due to be changed. It's perfectly normal and happens with tha gas and electricity. Problem is, British Gas will take the opportunity to put their own meter in. They work in exactly the same way BUT they're owned by British Gas, rather then your local distribution company (e.g, Northern Electric/Npower up my neck of the woods, EDF/London electric in London). This can cause problems when you're changing suppliers as technically, nobody but a British Gas engineer is supposed to touch their meters.

The missed appointment is terrible but I see it everyday with loads of suppliers so I can't say I'm supprised. You should be entitled to £20 compensation but ask to see their Codes of practice as they may oporate different rules.

And to think I couldn't sleep 'cause I was worrying about work lol

If anyone ever has any problems with their gas or electricity suppliers/bills ets let me know. I might be able to shed some light on things.

Hi, thanks for the info,
United utilities were the ones who were changing the meter on behalf of Gritish Bas:)
I phoned BG yesterday explained what happened, he got in contact with U U and the outcome was that U U told him that they had changed it and they had the serial number different to BG. well i'm confused now as the bloke from BG knows that they didnt turn up here and asks me to check the meter for a serial number- i can't find one anywhere- so i have taken his direct number just in case i do spot the number-hope your still following this:rotfl:
anyway, another look at the meter reveals 2 stickers put over an original sticker and that 1 has the date of 21/12/88 -so meter has never been changed! the only thing that was changed 2 yrs ago was the pipe going from the meter!
BG have said they will compensate for the day lost :thumbsup2
