Just like Art, Ranger Stan Moore from WL is retiring Oct. 31. He has been at the Lodge since its inception and recently enjoyed his 20 yr WDW party. He was a bus driver at FW for 5 yrs.

If you have a chance go by and wish him well. He is there Wed- Sat from 7 til 4.

I wanted to add that Stan has lead a very full life. He still welds in his garage, that comes from his days serving as a ship builder. He shared with me once that he worked on the USS Kitty Hawk and 2 other naval ships while they were being built. Kitty Hawk is the one we get to fly over on Soarin. So next time you do that, think of Stan.

And he truly loves the Old West sites. So his passion for WL is real.

Sadly, we will not be able to say farewell to Ranger Stan. What a great ranger and good will ambassador for Wilderness Lodge he was.:goodvibes

I talked with Stan this last summer and knew it was probably our last chat. Along with Art the Greeter at BC, Ranger Stan is a great Disney icon and has touched many lives with his heartfelt welcomes and sharing of knowledge on the Lodge tours.

In addition his participation in the flag raising ceremony is well documented. Unfortunately we were never able to be part of that but I understand that Stan often would talk to the children of the family raising the flag that day. He would ask them who their best friend is, and after they responded he would tell them that their mother and father are the best friends they will ever have.

His religious devotion and service to others helped define the man we always sought out on every trip whether we stayed at the lodge or not. He will be truly missed, and my family wishes Stan and his wife a long, healthy and happy retirement. :thumbsup2

We were lucky enough to be a flag family during our stay at VWL in Dec. 2005 and Stan was fabulous! All of his knowledge and stories he shared with us made that an experience we will never forget. Good luck to Stan in his future you will be sorely missed at WL!:goodvibes

A little piece of the magic will be gone. We've known Stan before he was "Ranger" Stan. Unfortunately, our next trip is in December. We'll miss him greatly! :sad1:

I talked to him in August and asked him about retirement. He told me that he was having too much fun.

I wonder what changed his mind? :confused3

He has indicated to me for 3 yrs now that retirement was coming soon. He confirmed it to me by phone a few weeks ago but asked me to keep it under my hat til it was official. His DW was reaching retirement at Publix in late Oct., he has in 20 yrs as of Oct 5th, so the time was right.

He did share that he would be leaving with mixed emotions because he is looking forward to spending more time with his "sweetie" as he refers to his DW, but leaving WL with sadness as he will miss the people he encounters everyday.

Does anyone have a photo of him? I think that Ranger Stan was helping my son find the hidden mickey in the next to the fireplace last week. If so he will be missed, he was great with my son.

What a fantastic gentleman Ranger Stan is. DW and I had the great good fortune of meeting him. He will definitely be missed!

So he worked on the Kitty Hawk? My daughter was an air traffic controller on the Kitty Hawk!

We were lucky enough to be a flag family in 07 and meet Ranger Stan! Kids just loved him and we will surely miss him!!!

We took Stan's tour of the WL a few years back. He has an amazing amount of fascinating information about the Lodge and Disney in general. We stuck around after the tour and chatted for probably an hour or so about WDW. Ever since, we've made it a point to catch Stan in the WL lobby and say hello. I'll be sorry to see him go, but wish him the best in retirement.

Do you think if I sent him a card to the WL, he would get it? I think I will do that. I have a great picture of him & I together after the WL Tour. Every time I see that picture it makes me smile. We are thinking about staying at the The Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park this summer (based on his recommendations). He will be missed, but I am happy for him :goodvibes

He will be missed. ::yes::

Are we, as a community, doing anything for Ranger Stan?

I know Jimmy mentioned doing something several months ago and I sent him a lifetime Senior Pass to all federal fee lands, including all of the +/- 400 National Park Service sites. But that was a small thing.

I wonder if Jimmy could assemble a scrapbook of DISer photos with Stan, DIS posts, etc, or something similar as a way of us personally expressing our appreciation?

We met Stan in July on our first of hopefully many trips to WL. He and DH talked forever about everything. I know DH will really be sad to hear that Stan will not be there on our next trip.

Jim

I tried to get as many posts as possible to get something going, but didnt get as much response as I hoped. I did pass along your nice gift back in May to him and he asked for your address to thank you. I sent you a PM about that but never got a response. I still feel he would love to send you a thank you.

Unfortunately Stan wasnt as visible as Art, and therefore may not have encountered as many people. Thats the only thing I can figure, cause those who did meet him loved him.

I would still love to do that scrapbook, I just need some response.

think he was the one who did our tour - back in around 95?

sorry no pictures.

he was very kind. when I did not want to go on the roof - he was a gentleman - did not even ask why...

he was very kind.

he will be missed.

Morning J. I wonder if we asked outside the DVC community if some more would be interested? We have some pictures of Ranger Stan. What should we do, PM them to you or print them out and send them? What would be the easiest for you? I think it is a great idea.:cloud9:

Jimmy, we have some nice photos we could add, too.

Let us know if you want them and how you would like them to be sent.
