I'm having an escape wedding... photography for 2 hours in included in the $4000 package, I was paying extra for Randy...

I hear you on the instant gratification thing ! Since I have my MK proofs and ordered the wall portrait, that was good enough for me to be able to wait for the CD. Now if I had to wait that long for the ceremony ones, then that would have been different.

Please remember that not many people on this board have actually used DPS for their ceremony and haven't gotten to converse with their photographer ahead of time. I would say before you rule them out, talk to DPS and express your concerns and see what they have to offer. I know for my MK and Honeymoon shoots I had a couple of "must haves" and included that on my BEO and when I spoke with DPS, so the photographer for each session knew ahead of time and at AK even "mapped out" his route to get my requests in along with some great areas I didn't even think about. They have some good photographers as well. I just hadn't researched things well enough.

This is NOT to say that Randy isn't a GREAT photographer. I AM so glad we had him. He was a blast. He helped my DH get the tux, cuffs and tie right and even helped my daughter in lacing the back of my gown. He can pretty much direct the wedding and reception for you.

Just don't give all DPS photographers a bad rap based on a few MK sessions. Not that those aren't important, but seriously research all of your options and know the details. Most importantly......COMMUNICATE your wishes in advance so whomever you choose knows what you want !

Anyway, Thanks for all the advice on Randy. I'm going to go check out his pricing (I was stumped by the password thing, thanks for the ariel tip!) We're having our reception offsite, so I'm thinking randy might be a better way to go. Still haven't decided on video -- I love the idea of Stan doing HD vid, is it very expensive?

I hear you on this, but my opinion hasn't been formed just on this board. I personally know a bride who got married at Disney and I've seen her DPS pics and I was horrified. I wasn't even thinking about the MK photo sessions... great another thing to worry about! I just don't know where all this leaves me... I have to worry about this until I see proofs and I don't have time to worry...

I'm freaking out! Randy was booked as soon as I booked for December 1, 2008. Now, I'm stuck with DPS because the roots or misty aren't in my budget...

Have you talked to the Roots about customizing a package? The prices on their website weren't in my budget either, so we worked out a smaller package that I could afford

Also, I believe they now have a smaller package just for Escape brides.

We did this for our MK shoot as well. We even requested the photographer who had captured a certain image we knew we wanted. So yes, we got to take pix in all the places we requested, plus some other cool ones. However, the quality of those pix was extremely disappointing.

This is what I'm worried about... I'm not concerned with where the photos are taken or what poses, just the quality. I'm very concerned about quality and I'm just afraid I won't get this DPS. I mean I requested Paul or Ty, because I hear they have great reviews, but who's to say I will get them 6 months out.

Is there a big difference it quality between Misty, Roots and Randy?

I think the differences among the three are mostly style, not quality, although with the Roots you automatically get two camerapeople with every package.

Misty and Randy may be a bit closer in style, but each photographer has his or her own look. We all just pick the one whose look matches our personal taste!

It was really funny - I emailed them with what I was looking for. Then I saw the prices on their site and was like, "Oh man, I can't afford that!" So a few days later Nathan called me and I told him, "Sorry, I can't afford you guys!" and he was like "Let's work out something you can afford!"

I just told them the number of hours of coverage I wanted and that I wanted all images on disc and nothing else - no prints, no albums, etc. I like to do all that stuff myself ...

ETA: I am sure Randy does the same thing! Most photographers are very willing to customize their packages!

I felt bad for talking about other photogs in a thread titled "Randy Chapman"... we need PrincessBride, Maggimus, et al. to come along and post some of their fave Randy pictures!

Carrie, I know you were very disappointed in your MK shoot. I am sad to hear it wasn't all you had hoped. I want to tell you that I thought you did get some good ones though. I know I had seen some AWESOME ones and so I had really high expectations (and for the price, I think those high expectations are justified). So mine didn't have the "wow" affect I was hoping for, but like I said before, I did find some I liked. I think Amanda's and Summer's were to die for and so I had hopes of those standards, but hey, I am old and overweight, so I can't expect them to look as good !

In the end....it is what it is.....either the MK shoot is worth the gamble or not. I am glad we did it.

I am also thankful we found Randy.

I'll shut up on photography now.
