The Disney trivia book seems to have a slight error - while President Nixon did give a speech at the Contemporary in 1973 - it was not his famous "I'm not a crook" speech - also known as the "Checkers" speech after Julie's dog Checkers, which had been a gift. He also mentioned Pat's nice Republican cloth coat ( as opposed to a mink)

That speech was made in the 50's while he was Vice-President under Eisenhower - but it seems to be an urban myth that won't die that it was made at the Contemporary.

What can I say - I'm a high school History teacher!

Here's a couple more:

The first wedding in Disney's Wedding Pavilion was televised live June 18,1995 on Lifetime TV as part of its 'Weddings of a Lifetime' series.

The two marble doors that are in the queue area for Rock 'n Rollercoaster are each decorated with approx. 3,536 multicolored marbles.

The Liberty Square Christmas Shop in the MK is designed to look like three separate shops with walls between them opened up. They are supposed to be owned by three different colonial families- a German family, a woodcarver's family, and a musician's family.

We were told this by a CM in May 2006: There are 3 people that portray Tinker Bell when she "flies" from the castle during Wishes. Two are men and one is a woman. He also told us that all three were gay. And he also said he knew this to be true because one of the men was his son.

I don't know if what he said is true or not, all I know is there wouldn't be enough money for me to fly from the castle like Tink does during Wishes!

That is odd, the stories all vary. When we took the Keys To The Kingdom tour in December 2006 our CM told us that every tinkerbell is absolutely a female. She said that each Tinkerbell (and there are only 3 at this time) have 2 male escorts that assist her in climbing the long ladder and helping her put her wings and gear on and then they push her out of the window. She also said that to qualify as Tinkerbell you have to be no more than about 5 ft tall and 95 lbs. I guess we may never know which story is the correct one.

I just checked out on google and this is what I got...

That's what I heard on my KTTK tour, as well.

I can't imagine ANY CM mentioning anything to a guest ANYTHING other than Tinkerbell is Tinkerbell and there's no WAY they'd mention sexual orientation.

My son is doing a report on Walt

After the success of Snow White, he bought his parents a house in CA, his mother died a month later beacuse of faulty exhaust, I guess carbon monoxide poisoning. He never forgave himself for his death.

He was bankrupt at age 21.

His wife was one of his first employees.

He tried to enlist in WW one, but was too young, joined the ambulance corps and traveled through France, and decorated the ambulances with cartoon drawings.

There is no working plumbing in Liberty Square in MK. All of the bathrooms are actually located according to the original plans in other "lands".

I don't think this one can be true. There are restrooms--upstairs--in the Liberty Tree Tavern. I'm assuming that restaurant is part of Liberty Square.

With all due respect...one small correction---there was indeed an "I am not a crook" speech made on November 17, 1973, relating to Watergate and completely separate from the Checkers speech, which was made when Nixon was a VP candidate in September, 1952.

On Splash Mountain, in the area before you go up the track to the big drop, a beaver-like animal comes down from the ceiling and says "Go FSU!" I heard this on a board a long time ago and each time I go, I look for it. During my last visit in August, I finally saw it! It sounds almost like a sneeze, though.

The original story said that one of the imagineers that designed the ride went to FSU and wanted to incorporate it into the ride.

Any thoughts?

Well, that's the story I've always heard. I think the animal just yells out "FSU!" though.

I think it would be a lot harder to find a male who is small enough to do this than a female! Those must be some small men!

I have some thoughts...but, as a Gator, I'll keep them to myself!

I think you're right, though...I've heard that story many times and noones really refuted it. Cool move by the imagineer...

Re: Tinkerbelle -- just went on a KTTK tour last week and our CM told us, "Tinkerbelle is always a belle, never a Bill" He also mentioned the fact another poster already talked about -- she is supposed to be 4'8" and 95 pounds (130 with the wings and harness). The CM also talked about her having one male 'helper' who gets her wings on, helps her into the harness, and then gives her a push out of the window.

The thing about the plumbing in Liberty Square was also mentioned on the tour....according to the property lines the bathroom in Columbia Harbor House is officially in Fantasyland....the restrooms in the Liberty Tree Tavern are officially in Frontierland. According to our CM anyway
