INTRODUCTION

The Golden Zephyr recalls the rocket ships of 1940s sci-fi movies. Shiny silver rockets lift riders off the ground and spin them gently over the waters of Paradise Bay.

ATTRACTION

The Golden Zephyr is located on the edge of Paradise Bay next to Jumpin' Jellyfish. Riders queue around the base in the shade of the attraction's platform before climbing the steps up to the loading area. There are six rocket ships, each seating up to 12 people.

After everyone has boarded the rocket ships begin moving around in a circle. As the speed increases, centrifugal force causes the ships to slowly rise and move outward to fly over Paradise Bay. At the end of the 90 second ride the ships slow and gradually descend back to the loading platform.

INTRODUCTION

Jumpin' Jellyfish is an adaptation of the classic parachute ride with an underwater theme where riders are suspended under a giant jellyfish and gently rise to the top of a huge kelp stalk, then float gently back down.

ATTRACTION

Jumpin' Jellyfish is located on the edge of Paradise Bay between the Golden Zephyr and the Orange Stinger. Its open queue meanders through rock formations like those found in tidepool areas.

There are two towers constructed to resemble giant stalks of kelp. Six colorful "jellyfish" vehicles are suspended from each tower, each seating two people. After the safety belts are fastened the jellyfish slowly rise 40' into the air, and move gently up and down before descending back to the bottom. The ride lasts about a minute-and-a-half.

INTRODUCTION

This beautiful carousel features a variety of colorful sea creatures that "float" up and down as the carousel revolves to the sound of a calliope playing classic Boardwalk tunes.

ATTRACTION

King Triton's Carousel is located in Paradise Pier in front of California Screamin'. The steeds on this unique carousel are not horses, but colorful underwater mammals and fish - dolphins, sea lions, whales, sea otters, flying fish and garibaldi. And yes, one kind of horse - the sea horse.

The queue winds around the carousel past the "sea shell" fountains, and is usually in the shade.

There are 56 sea animals and two water chariots. All of the animals go up and down.

INTRODUCTION

On Silly Symphony Swings riders sit in swing chairs which are lifted in the air and whirl around and around and up and down. It feels like flying!

ATTRACTION

The Queue for Silly Symphony Swings is outdoors, though most of the queue is covered and shaded. Guests will climb a flight of steps up to the boarding area, though an elevator is available for anyone who needs it.

Riders sit in swing chairs - there are 32 single chairs and 8 tandem chairs. Tandem chairs are intended for kids and an adult companion - the smaller yellow chair may only be used by riders less than 48" tall. Adult riders who are by themselves may sit in the red chair of a tandem chair. To enter the swing chair, lift the horizontal silver bar, sit in the chair, and then lower the bar. Secure the bar by attaching the clip that is on the end of the black strap.

Silly Symphony Swings is inspired by the 1935 Mickey Mouse cartoon "The Band Concert", in which Band Leader Mickey attempts to conduct an orchestra in the middle of a tornado. On this 90-second ride, the William Tell Overture starts to play as riders are lifted off the ground, and then the ride starts to spin around as everyone is caught in the tornado. The tornado is visible in the artwork on the central column. The ride spins faster as it rises higher, the central tower goes up and down and the roof canopy tilts so the swings rise up and down as they whirl around. Though the swing chairs appear to be close together, once the ride begins centrifugal force takes over and there is no danger of colliding with another chair. At the end of the ride riders are lowered gently to the ground.

Located right on the edge of Paradise Bay is Mickey's Fun Wheel, one of the most distinctive attractions on Paradise Pier.

ATTRACTION

Mickey's Fun Wheel may look like an ordinary Ferris wheel, but it's not. As the 150' wheel turns, the attached gondolas revolve with it. While the cars on the outside (those with Mickey's face) are stationary, the inner Donald, Goofy, and Minnie cars hang on an interior track, and they move in and out and swing as the wheel turns.

There's no Fastpass for this attraction, and the queue is completely outdoors. There are two lines - one for the stationary (Mickey) cars, and the other for the swinging cars. The gondolas hold up to six people, three on each side.

The loading area can load three cars at a time - two swinging cars and one stationary car. Riders get to go around the wheel twice - it takes one revolution of the wheel (eight stops) to get all the cars loaded/unloaded, and then the wheel makes one complete revolution without stopping. Then the stop-and-go starts again as the cars are unloaded/loaded with the next set of passengers.

The gondolas are completely enclosed and there is no way to fall out, nor even to lose small items. There's an excellent view of DCA, Disneyland and the surrounding area, though the wire mesh makes it difficult to take pictures.

INTRODUCTION

Mulholland Madness takes riders on a "Wild Mouse" type of roller coaster ride with all the twists and turns of Hollywood's fabled Mulholland Drive.

ATTRACTION

Mulholland Madness is located in the Paradise Pier area across from Jumpin' Jellyfish. The queue is a covered ramp that switchbacks up to the loading area.

The ride vehicles will hold up to four people in two rows, and riders are secured by a lap bar. After the vehicle moves away from the loading area it's pulled up the track to the top of the "Hollywood Hills", and then proceeds down in a series of sharp 180-degree unbanked turns, with a few quick up-and-down dips for good measure. The ride is short - only about 90 seconds.

INTRODUCTION

It's not a figment of your imagination -- that really IS a huge orange sitting on the edge of Paradise Bay! Inside the orange take your own "Flight of the Bumblebee" as you sit in a swing chair that whirls you around and up and down.

ATTRACTION

The Queue for the Orange Stinger is completely outside, though once inside the orange there's a little bit of cover. You'll climb up steps to the queue/boarding area, though there is an elevator available for those who need it.

Each rider sits in an individual bumblebee swing chair. To enter the chair, pull up on the metal bar across the front, then seat yourself and lower the bar. Take the strap that is hanging from the seat between your legs and clip it to the bar. Forty-eight people can ride at one time.

When the ride begins the swings rise off the floor, and start to spin around faster and faster. The entire assembly tilts so that in each revolution you go up and down as you fly around. Though the swing chairs appear close together, once the ride begins centrifugal force takes over and there is no danger of colliding with another chair.

Smell the oranges and listen to the bees as you fly!

The Golden Dreams movie is narrated by Califia, the spirit of California. In a series of short scenes it presents a brief history of the state of California and the people who made it.

ATTRACTION

Golden Dreams is presented in a beautiful classic movie theater. On either side of the stage are statues of Califia, the spirit of California. Both before and after the film the statues "come to life" and Califia (portrayed by Whoopi Goldberg) speaks to the audience.

The 22-minute film chronicles some of the history of California in a series of live action sequences depicting short scenes from the lives of people who have come to California to pursue their "Golden Dreams". Among them: A party of traveling Spanish friars experiences an earthquake, a down-on-his-luck miner pans for gold, a Japanese mail-order bride meets her new husband, William Mulholland constructs the L.A. Aqueduct, photographer Dorothea Lange photographs Dust Bowl migrants, and Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak demonstrate the first "personal" computer. Califia appears in most of these scenes, to nudge things along by offering some advice or an encouraging word.

At the end of the movie a photo and video montage, set to the attraction's theme music, showcases many notable Californians.

The World of Color is a 25 minute nighttime show that is a stunning blend of lights, water, animation and music. With 1200 fountains that can shoot streams as high as 200 feet in the air, jaw dropping fire effects and appearances from some of your favorite Disney characters that will entertain as well as touch your heart… this is a show that must be seen in person to truly be experienced.

ATTRACTION

Years in the making, this 29 minute show is not to be missed. Larger than life water screens fill the air with animation from new and old Disney movies, music, lights, dancing fountains that shoot 200 feet in the air!

Magical Fountains are the stars of the show!

INTERESTING FACTS

Original planning for World of Color began in July 2005 and was inspired by Walt Disney's first color TV series, "Wonderful World of Color". The show premiered on June 11, 2010.

The large projection mist screen is 380 feet wide and 50 feet high.

The show features almost 1200 fountains, with height ranging from 30 to 200 feet. (Mickey's Fun Wheel is 150 feet tall.) Each fountain has multiple points of control for lighting, color intensity, water angle, height, and more.

The score was composed by Mark Hammond and recorded at Abbey Road Studio in London. "The Wonderful World of Color", which opens and closes the show, was composed by the Sherman Brothers for the "Wonderful World of Color" television series.

There are 28 high-definition projectors, 14 of which are submersible.

INTRODUCTION

This musical production brings the story of Snow White to the stage as it follows her from the Evil Queen's castle to the cottage of the seven dwarfs in the Enchanted Forest. Incorporating many of the favorite songs from the movie, like "Whistle While you Work" and "Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho", this show brings to life the classic scenes.

Wonderfully detailed sets like the castle and the cottage help to recreate the look of the movie. There are a variety of special effects, including the animation of the Magic Mirror.

This 25-minute production takes place in the Fantasyland Theatre, located across Small World Way from "it's a small world." It is presented several times a day -- check the Disneyland Times Guide for more details.

35,000! DONE!
