Random Thread & The Interchangeable Inside Joke

I don't know how to love him. What to do, how to move him. He's a man...he's just a man...and I've had so many men before. And in many ways, he's just one more.

On Sunday, November 21, had the pleasure--nay, the honour--to see the Pilgrim Player's Production of Cinderella. I saw this production not only because I had several friends associated with it, but also, because I highly enjoy any Rogers and Hammerstein musical.

I must say beforehand that I was highly impressed with the caliber of this production, and was sad that I only was able to catch one out of the three shows.

The show began, and immediately I am impressed with the massive town set (all in purple, naturally). I spot several of my friends in the ensemble, including Samantha ----, Dani ----, and Liz ------. Of course, standing in the center of the ensemble is none other than friend Jacob ----- as the Herald (in gold sparkly pants, nonetheless). "The Prince is Giving a Ball" begins, and...Jake flubs his first line. Oops! Ah, but he laughs and recovers nicely. I do rather enjoy his singing voice, and know that this musical production will indeed be a good one.

So the Prince is giving a ball; now what? Enter Cinderella and family. I was able to see the one performance of Cinderella as Rebecca -------, who was...adequate. More on this later, however. While I did enjoy "In My Own Little Corner", I had to question why she was sitting on a stool, and not a chair ("...all alone, in my own little chair"). Do I blame set design team? A small quip, but then again, I strive for musical theatre accuracy and perfection.

I was impressed at Steph -----'s performance as the Queen; she has a lovely singing voice and very nice, yet subtle, comedic timing. I enjoyed Sam and Liz in their somewhat small roles as Steward and Chef, respectively, and before I knew it, the Fairy Godmother (played by the talented Steph -------) showed up to help Cinderella get to the ball. Steph delivered a stellar rendition of "Impossible!", and Cinderella ran off to go to the ball (or rather, a costume change, ha!).

It's the first Intermission, and I get up to stretch. Or rather, to poke around in the lobby, on the quest for people in the Crew that might be hanging around there. I did happen to catch Jacob -------, the all-important and awesome Prop Manager (and, according to the other Jake, one-half of Jake Squared). And by 'catch', I mean 'see briefly from across the room but do not actually take the initiative to approach and talk to out of sheer laziness'.

Act II begins soon thereafter, and finally, some dancing! Thanks, choreographers for sticking to the original choreography! (Credit goes to Amanda ----- and Chelsea -------) Although we had seen Ryan ----- briefly as Prince Christopher (and I almost didn't recognize him without his glasses!), we finally get to hear him sing. And damn. He can SING. 5 stars to Ryan! Anyhow, I noticed that there was a bit of a lack of chemistry between him and Rebecca. Not sure if it was just me, but I felt like there could've been just a bit more there. I did enjoy "10 Minutes Ago", though, it's one of my favourites from the show. Enter the Stepsisters again for a bit of comedic timing, and I still can't get over the fact that Kayla ----- is a redhead in this show :)
