memorial day is today, and everyone wears poppies and we have 2 minutes silence to remember and memorial Sunday is this weekend and there is a big service and parade in London and they lay poppy wreaths - I think the queen puts them down.Yepp, we get Memorial Day off- May 30th.
And we get Veterans Day off, today!
We've got some very patriotic people who make the school calendar for my county. I know some counties who don't have either of those days off from school.
... that's just terrible.
If only I could say what I would like to say about those muslims, without getting in trouble.
yeah I got one because they've been selling them this week in schoolIt'd very disrespectful, but I felt more appalled by the comments people left for some reason...
I never remember Remembrance Day. It's always a day i'm surprised to discover is occurring on that day. I never get poppies, but then again, I never see people selling them.

And I know, I read that and I was just like, -_- that's awful. It's sad because all the Muslim people I know are really nice ): I just wish everyone could get along...

Veteran's day and Memorial day are two different days. Veteran's day is today and we thank all the Vets- who are still alive- who fought for our freedom. And Memorial Day, May 30th [we also have that day off] is when we pray for all of the Vets who died fighting for our freedom. Thus, "Memorial". Two different days. But we have both off from school
I know many muslims (like, 5... that's a lot xD). But all the muslims over here in America aren't the terrorist kind. Because, the muslims over in the Stan's think that since the muslims in America are in America and don't want to kill us, that they're not technically not Muslim. So all the muslim's I know are nice and don't want to kill Americans and don't want to burn our buildings or force their religion upon us.
Oh, and Eimear, I updated my TR![]()
ah, i dont think we have Veterans day. i think the vets fought against us? to give you freedom from england, so we dont celebrate the demise of our empire xD but we dont have any days off, not even for St. George's Day D:
St George's Day was a major feast and national holiday in England on a par with Christmas from the early 15th century.[2] However, this tradition had waned by the end of the 18th century after the union of England and Scotland.[3] In recent years the popularity of St George's Day appears to be increasing gradually. BBC Radio 3 had a full programme of St George's Day events in 2006, and Andrew Rosindell, Conservative MP for Romford, has been putting the argument forward in the House of Commons to make St George's Day a public holiday.
A traditional custom at this time was to wear a red rose in one's lapel, though with changes in fashion this is no longer common. Another custom is to fly or adorn the St George's Cross flag in some way: pubs in particular can be seen on 23 April festooned with garlands of St George's crosses. However, the modern association of the St George's Cross with sports such as football, cricket and rugby, along with far-right political parties such as the BNP means that this tradition is rare outside this context. It is customary for the hymn "Jerusalem" to be sung in cathedrals, churches and chapels on St George's Day, or on the Sunday closest to it.
There is a growing reaction to the recent indifference to St George's Day. Organizations such as English Heritage, and the Royal Society of Saint George (a non-political English national society founded in 1894) have been encouraging celebrations. There have also been calls to replace St George as patron saint of England, on the grounds that he was an obscure figure who had no direct connection with the country.[4] However there is no obvious consensus as to whom to replace him with, though names suggested include Edmund the Martyr,[5] Cuthbert of Lindisfarne, or Saint Alban, with the latter having topped a BBC Radio 4 poll on the subject.[6]
In early 2009 Mayor of London Boris Johnson spearheaded a campaign to encourage the celebration of St George's Day.
okay, confusing xD
but yeah. there is a muslim girl in my english/spanish/pe classes etc, and shes so nice! and when we had a non curriculum day in year 7, she helped me make this textiles flower cause i couldnt do it, LOL. aw, shes so nice!
LOL, naww, Veterans day celebrates the Vets who are still alive, none of which were alive during the Revolutionary War xD More like the ones who have faught in WWII, Vietnam, and Korea [WWI, possibly] so it's not against y'all xD Memorial Day, yeah, that probably includes Revolutionary War soldiers.
