Does anyone have an idea as to what happens with the now unused Maelstrom Boats, Animatronics, Scenery etc.? Does It go into storage, give it away? Just a thought of what happens to the now unused items in rides that have been closed.

I don't know, but I am so sad Maelstrom is gone, love that ride! We are going this summer and I am going to miss riding it soo much!

The same thing any other park does, re-purpose and re-use what it can, sell parts to other parks, hold in storage what it thinks it will use again, sell for scrap what it can, and junk what's left.

us too. really sad as my family couldn't care less about frozen.

If it meets the same fate as the props from 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, I would imagine 85% of it will just get trashed, 10% will end up being sold as collectibles, and the remaining 5% will go into Disney's archives.

As I understand it Disney Imagineering will canabalise the ride system to use in other rides or as spares for current rides that may share the same technology. The rest maybe saved in storage and some stuff just broken down and trashed.

They have also been known to repurpose ride systems at other parks with a new themes.

Funny you mention 20K, I was reading up yesterday on it.

2 of the 'subs' were sent to Castaway Cay and another to Backlot at HS.
One disappeared from Cay and the other was heavily damaged by hurricanes.

We were just at Epcot lastweek and were also disappointed that this was closed. Actually both of us commented that Epcot is in dire need of a new attraction or two. Some of them are very, very tired.

I just rode it for the first time March 2014 and second (and last) time in June 2014. I dont know why I hadnt been on it all the other times I was there, but I have a great shared memory with my 2 best friends about my experience on Maelstrom. It will definitely be a story we tell even when we are old and gray.
Plus we all DESPISE Frozen. Well not so much the storyline or characters, just that darned, "Let It Go".

I was under the impression that the Maelstrom ride was just going to be "re-themed" into a Frozen ride and still use the same track and layout of old ride....kind of like what they did with the Mexico ride/3 Caballeros a few years ago. In that case, maybe the old boats will get a coat of blue paint or something and be used again. Since the new Frozen ride is opening early next year I can't see them doing much of a total ride overhaul in that space.

There was pictures posted here a little while ago showing they gutted the whole ride

I thought they were moving most of the old rides into the new 5th park. Or is that all still rumor? I hope it is true, as I love Malestrom. And would like to ride the Snow White ride again. And Toad.

That video makes me so sad, the poor boats just look so out of place going down the highway. Maybe they will appear on ebay soon and I can set one up in the backyard. It can be Norway everyday

I haven't heard that rumor (and not sure if you're joking or not), but I think they should make a "Retro-land" "Nostalgia Nook" or something where they put ALL the old rides, restaurants, etc. They could even rotate through old shows and parades.

I'm not joking. That was the rumor I heard, that the 5th park was where they were going to put all the old, missed rides.

As much as I sadly can't ever see this actually happening I have to say I would completely adore it.:goodvibes
