Random question about American TV channels

Does anyone know how to actually figure out what's coming on:confused3

Is there a guide you can buy or download?

I swear last year it was so frustrating finding something to watch once the children had been settled for the night. We always ended up watching some random prison programme or murder programme :scared:

It would have been great to be able to find a good movie starting. The problem is nearly every channel you switch to us showing adverts so you have to wait for the adverts to finish to see what program your in the middle of.

We lurve American TV. Look forward to NBC Breakfast Prog with Matt Lauer and Al the Weatherman. Also love the adverts....one year it was all 'Jimmy Bryan Honda', 'Jimmy Bryan Nissan', 'Jimmy Bryan Toyota' etc. The guy was obviously the local auto baron!!!

Robb & Stucky Patio is another one I remember for some reason, along with the advert asking you to lobby your local healcare facility to get them to buy a particular MRI scanner!!!! - weird!

I often buy a Sunday paper and they have a basic tv guide in it for the week. What I did discover this easter was I could use my Netflix on my iPad and get all the American content - not sure if the free wifi at the WDW resorts would be good enough though.

The American content on Netflix is ridiculously good. I've used it for a while now and I couldn't go back to the watered down, basic content that the uk version of Netflix treats us too!

:goodvibes

We always watch a channel called USA, they usually have Law and Order on or some good films!

In the morning it's always the weather channel for the local on the 8's

USA is by far my favourite channel. Monk, Psych, Burn Notice and White Collar being my favourite shows :)

:goodvibes

I'm annoyed that I didn't think to check the first week! Missing all the old shows I was catching up on!

Disney only offers certain channels and there won't be a guide just for those channels. You can get a Sunday paper and see what will be showing on ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, USA etc. and that will tell you what time each show starts. It just won't tell you what actual channel number the station is for Disney. You will have to channel surf. Now sometimes there are channel listings in the rooms.

WDW has recently expanded its cable channel line-up. The full list can be found here.

It is annoying that there's no guide; just a scrolling list of channels.

May be they are trying to get us out of the rooms running and screaming 'I can't take it anymore' into the nearest on site bar:)

i loved watching tlc last time - that is the most amazing channel! im actually a bit gutted that i have been told they dont have tlc on disney tvs

I think the list the UKDEB posted has TLC as channel 42 but it looks like a typo and say TCL if you read the blurb above the list you will see what I mean.

I though I was going to have to break it to DH that the weather channel was not an option but that looks like channel 50 as its listed at TWC.

The adverts that annoyed me were the BOB DANCE, WHERE EVERYBODY RIDES!
these are the Hyundai ones where he gets his grand daughter to say it! lordy its painful!!!!!:)

Those ads were hilariously awful.

Slightly OT, but - No love for Mix 105.1 radio? It's our station of choice in orlando, and it became a running joke for one particular advert when we were there last - Scratch and Dent World!!!

Slightly scratched or dented appliances at 70% off! 70% off? 70% off! Down in Altemonte Springs by the railroad tracks! 70% off? 70% off! Scratch and Dent World!!

Every. single. time. we put the radio on, within 30 seconds, 70% off? 70% off! Scratch and Dent World!

Back on-topic, we watch a little TV but we don't stay in disney, but the american cable tv system confuses me lots

Oh wait, they have a tv advert too with identical speech just with added pictures of the crazy voiceover lady. You can see why THIS would get tiring after, i dunno, one listen? :furious:

There are a lot more channels now and channel 17 gives a programme guide so you can see what is on at that time and the next hour, I just haven't figured out how to find out what is on later on (the arrow keys don't seem to work).

Haha yep this is our radio choice too! Although the ad that sticks out in my mind the most is one about burgers and them having "patty on patty on patty technology!" Think that means they will knock you a triple burger up

I know it sounds sad but we always loved watching Back-to back episodes of Sabrina the Teenage Witch on ABC family before heading off to the parks - was gutted when it was no longer on during our last visit in October last year!:wizard:

I did too!!

When me and DBF went to WDW back in 2009, I would wake up first and watch Sister Sister, Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Full House before heading to the parks :goodvibes We also started watching something called Judge Karen in the mornings (she's like an American Judge Judy). In the evening, we would go back to the room and just stick the Disney Channel on and watch Wizards of Waverly Place and Hannah Montana as we could never find anything else to watch :rotfl2:(well I would, DBF always fell asleep straight away).

Last year after being at the parks all day, we would go back to the villa and watch America's Funniest Home Videos. We found a channel that had the Harry Potter movies on most nights too. My little sister watched the Disney channel most of the time and my brother had a TV in his room and found a channel that played South Park, Family Guy, The Simpsons etc...
