Random Qs: Rider switch, PVI and a MHP question

These questions aren't related at all, but I didn't want to start more than one thread. :lmao:

1. Can someone remind how rider switch works? DD will be almost 8 and DS will be 4.5 but I'm sure there are some rides he won't want to go on that she will. I'd like to be able to take her, and have DH take her after if they would like to.

2. For those who have stayed at Park Vue Inn, does the hot breakfast have rice?

3. I read that MHP tickets go on sale around late April, early May. Do I get these on the DL site?

Thanks for your help!

Rider Switch is fairly easy. Take the child that does not yet meet the height requirement to the CM at the entrance to the line. Show them the child and then they'll give you a lanyard/tag that you take with you in the line. Somewhere in the line (e.g., at RSR, you had it to the CM at the point where the FP and standby lines merge) you had the lanyard/tag to the CM and they'll give you the actual rider switch pass. That pass will allow up to three individuals to return to ride the attraction later.

You might be thinking of MNSSHP at WDW, which generally goes on sale in May. Last year, the Mickey's Halloween Party tickets didn't get announced and go on sale until July. You can purchase MHP tickets on the DL website under Special Event tickets.

Thanks Figment! Last trip was over a year ago and we did go with friends and switched that way, but I completely spaced on how it worked. So for our case, we would all go to through the line together? Is that right? and then DS and DH would wait in the standby line.

July. Got it :thumbsup2 Thanks!

No, the child that is not tall enough to ride the attraction will not be allowed into the line. So you and DD would get into line (either standby or with a FP, if you have it) and then when you finished, you'd meet up with DH and DS and switch off. DH could take DD with him and go back on the ride (this time using the FP line because of the Rider Switch pass) while you go off and do something else with DS.

In terms of MHP tickets, keep an eye on the HalloweenTime SuperThread. That's where the latest information will be posted as it comes available. At this point there are a lot of really big unknowns about HalloweenTime and MHP, so the past years' schedules may not be indicative of what will happen this year.

oh ok! I think I was getting confused because we did do Rider switch at Knotts too and over there we all stood in line together.

I saw SherryE mentioned rumors about the Halloween party being moved due to the 60th celebration. I'm curious to see what will happen. We're planning 5 days plus a MHP so I'm excited to get those tickets so I can plan out our park days!

Yes, there have been rumors that MHP might move back to DCA in 2015. I wasn't as sold about those rumors, but having now heard about the fireworks spectacular planned for DL's 60th, I'm leaning more towards the party moving. I still think the lack of Halloween in DCA (no rides with Halloween overlays) is a mark against DCA, but they might be able to mitigate the loss of Halloween Screams fireworks with a Halloween WoC (though, I don't think WoC is as impressive at fireworks, but we shall have to wait and see).

I wonder how the halloween overlays will work with the 60th, or will DL just not do it? I can't imagine not having any halloween themed rides for the season. But with all the additions, it does make sense to move the MHP over. Although, aren't they redoing WOC for the 60th as well?

I saw on the HalloweenTime SuperThread that you're planning on going 10/3-7. It's worth noting that Gay Days will be occurring from October 2 to 4 this year, so the parks will likely be busy on Sat and Sun. If the schedule from 2014 holds, there should be at least one (maybe two) MHP while you're there.

Oh, I think they'll still do the overlays for HM and Space in DL for HalloweenTime. I don't think those overlays will be omitted because of the 60th. I meant that DCA doesn't really have any special Halloween overlay attractions (unless you count ToT, which is kind of spooky all year and they do feature it on the Halloween advertising).

Yes, they are also re-doing WoC for the 60th, however, it seems like re-programming WoC to show a different show is much easier. In 2013, they closed for one day when they transitioned from the regular show to the Holiday show (Winter Dreams). In 2014, it looks like they didn't even have to miss a night. So based on that, it seems like it would be pretty easy to have a Halloween-version of WoC for MHP and the 60th show on the other nights. Now, the bigger question is whether there is a budget to design a new show for Halloween. We shall have to wait and see about that.

thanks lalasmama! I thought not, but didn't want to bring some sort of instant rice with me if they had some.

Most commonly, there is....
Fried potatoes, hashbrowns, or tater tots
Bacon or Sausage
Biscuits and gravy
Scrambled eggs
Make your own waffles
Yogurt
Fresh Fruit
Oatmeal
Toast/bread
Bagels
Cereals

Can't remember what else we've had there now, but we're always pleased with it!

Yup, 3-10. I do know it will overlap Gay days, but it's when DD has her fall break. We will likely leave late friday night, and get in to LAX early Saturday morning. Now, depending the dates for MHP, we could do that on Saturday night, giving us time to relax a little and get some groceries. I'm waiting on the MHP schedule to see. If there's no party scheduled that night, we may hit DCA for the latter part of the day just so we don't waste a day.

We really don't have anything else planned other than maybe a trip to San Diego zoo, so we're pretty open to moving park days around. Still debating on hoppers. I know they are useful but for the most part, we're "stick to one park" and just do it all kind of park goers.

Yum!
I think it was the breakfast that sold it. We stayed at DI&S last time, and it was fine, and cheaper!

We definitely need to bring some rice though. My kids are so Asian, they love white rice

It's a delish breakfast. I'm always pleased with it! And, by all means, bring the rice! It will go well with everything else!

I've stayed at DI&S one other time, and it was "okay" enough to be willing to stay there again, but it wasn't wonderful at all... Now, PVI is our go-to place. Yes, it's more expensive, but there's so many wonderful things about it--the beds are firm enough, but pillow-topped, tons of nice fluffy pillows, soft large towels that will actually cover me, large rooms... We love it!

:)

I'm not sure if the Paradise Pier Hotel character breakfast still has rice, but they used to, and back when we were eating lots of rice it made my half Korean husband so happy. (now, post-diabetes diagnosis (though he's not considered diabetic anymore as long as he keeps a reign on his diet...no medications at all, just diet) and having gone naturally lower carb b/c of weight watchers, rice is hardly a part of our diet anymore)

I wonder if Surf's Up still has that rice cooker? PPH, before it was a Disney property, was an Asian-owned hotel or so I've heard. Plus, before it was Surf's Up it was a Lilo and Stitch meal, so rice made perfect sense.

We booked a bunk bed room. :thumbsup2 though my cuddlers may not even sleep on it. It's highly likely they will end up with me in the queen bed and DH will be forced to sleep on the bottom bunk.

I'm not a big rice eater either. My kids and DH need it with their bacon and sausage though. For breakfast in the hotel, I think instant rice will suffice. Well at least it has to :rotfl2:

Just keep in mind that you can only use rider swap for the rides that your DS is *not tall enough* to ride...not for rides that he "won't want to go on". This might limit your rider swap options quite a bit, unless you DS is really small. My DS is tiny, and he was still tall enough for just about everything by the time he was 4.5.

good to know! thanks!
