Random Acts of Kindness

Clutter,
I love the idea of trying to do something nice for people each day of your trip! Actually, I am going to take it a step further and try to do something nice for someone every day, but I'll make a special effort at WDW!

We usually do things like offering to take families' pictures together, etc., but I think it will be different if we start actively looking for ways to brighten peoples' days! (And what a great lesson to teach my 4yo DS!)

So coming from a CM point of view I did exaclty the same thing that BillSears did. I was at work one day and I had noticed that somone had left their autograph book in my location. I decided to hold on to it for a while thinking the owner might come back and claim it. This was at the begining of my shift and I told my self if noone claimed it i was gonna send it to Matthew. So what I did was gather autographs from all the characters and then I sent it off to matthew. I am very happy with myself cause I made a little magic continue for this little boy after his vacation. I am all about making magic for my guest. They are the reason that I work in the FAB WDW Resorts.

Last year we dug through our old cedar chest before going to find my youngest daughter's "Laughing Place Certificate" and carried it EVERYDAY. With it if your child is too little to ride they give them a certificate to use when they come back to get shown straight to the front without a wait. Well, we had held on to it for 3 years and carried it EVERYWHERE except the last day. Well sure enough that was the only day Splash Mountain was working. I found a cast member and explained our situation to her and she not only let us in a back way so we didn't have to wait , the 4 of us got our own log! She made sure my daughter got a front seat so she could get wet! It really made all the difference in our trip. I made sure to tell Disney when we returned just how nice this cast member was!

My DH and I had booked our honeymoon in 1994 at CBR. It was what we could afford at the time. We got a call about 2 months before our trip from CRO asking if wea wanted to stay at WL for the same price. We accepted and got a Ground Floor room with a king bed just off the pool for $89/night.

While at EPCOT on our honeymoon we headed over to Canada to get a Canadian beer (U.S. Beer is very weak by comparison) When the CM there discovered that we were from the same province as her and were on honeymoon she gave us a free trifle. It was huge and we were not really hungry, but ate most of it cause it was so delicious.

While there with our 3yr old DS two years ago he (and whoever was with him at the time) was given tickets to get in TT by the back entrance on 2 separate occasions. Both times by a very nice CM named Carla who called him her little boyfriend. TT became his favourite ride by the end of the trip.

Last weekend my daughter and I had the good fortune to ride in front on the monorail from the Magic Kingdom. An older gentleman was driving the monorail, and seemed polite but a bit gruff and not overly friendly.

While we waited to leave, he stepped out of the cab for a few minutes, and on his return picked up his radio mike and called to the control tower asking if "Christine and that group was around, because their "special visitor" was on board. " They had a little back-n-forth, but she confirmed she would meet them at one of the stops.

After he hung up, I nosily asked who the "special visitor" was, fully expecting it would be a Disney business exec, or someone of that nature. But no, John explained that their "special" friend was a boy with cerebal palsy, who know them by name and looked for them everytime he came to the Magic Kingdom. He had been away for 6 months, so they were anxious to see him.

That this big, no-nonsense pilot would make that kind of effort really warmed my heart, and even brought a tear to my eye.

Thank you Snowlet24/Katie.

You may work at WDW for your guests but your guests love WDW and especially the CMs because of people like you. You're the reason we save and plan and can't wait till we come back home to WDW. Thank you and all of your colleages who do that extra bit for us.

Growing up, we lived in CA and went to DL annually. One year my aunt and uncle took myself, sister, brother, their two kids and a niece to DL. This was when they still had the ticket books (tells you my age LOL). It was just after dusk and we had met up with my aunt and uncle and were trying to decide what to do as we were low on tickets.
A young woman approached us and asked if we were staying in the park longer and we said yes, she then presented us with a partial book of tickets. For 6 youngsters (15 yo and under) this was great. As we were walking up to my aunt, an older couple approached us and asked if someone had just given us some tickets, we said yes, thinking they were going to ask for them back. They handed us two more partial ticket books. They were the young woman's parents.
With what was left, 2 "E" tickets per book, we were all able to ride one more big ride each plus some of the smaller rides.
I was in 4th grade at the time and still remember that family. They must have seen all six of us with my aunt and uncle and thought we needed the extra tickets. I hope they know how they made our day.

I love this post.

The last time we were at Epcot it had started to pour rain from 2:00pm on. We hung out in The Land for as long as we could stand it and then decided to make a break for the front of the park.

Me and DH don't mind a little rain, but Katie, our 3 year old, was horrified that her stroller and "Barbie dress" was all wet. Julie, our 12 month old, thought it was great. A lady we passed by handed us some extra plastic bags she got from a cm in the restroom so we could cover the kids strolles. Katie was a little less horrified. Once we got to a sheltered area we bought each girl a ball to cheer them up and wait out the storm. Katie never id smile and refused to play with her ball until we got back from the hotel. We have some great pictures of her pouty face.

Thanks to the mystery lady I met in the rain, ever so briefly, for trying to calm my horrified child!

What a great thread!

On our first trip with children, then 6 and 4, we were in EPCOT when the Character Bus stopped and the characters got out to sign autographs. By the time we got in line, it was time for them to leave, and dd was devastated to have missed Cinderella. We asked a CM, who told her we could find her in France. We walked to the France pavillion, but she was nowhere to be found. CM's had no idea when she would be there, and DD was brokenhearted and started to cry. A young lady working behind the counter in one of the gift shops discreetly asked her manager if she could give my daughter something, and handed her a lemon flavored lollipop. The tears dried up, and Cinderella appeared soon after. The picture I have of the two of them is one of my favorites, ever.

When we were At DL the beginning of March, My friend and I had another friend's 2y/o during a baby swap.. he couldn't understand where his mom had gone and was a little upset. When I took him to get a dole whip, the cm handed him Mickey stickers (this kid LIVES for stickers) it calmed him down quite well. It was nice to see a little of the magic firsthand.

The next week, we were back for DCA. The park was closing soon, but we wanted to squeeze in another ride on California Screamin'. We asked for a baby swap, and the CM handed us two, so none of us had to wait in the standby line. After a full day at a park, that felt like the best gift ever!

Reading all of your stories brought a smile to my face. My husband and I have never been to Disney but are planning a trip there as soon as we get home. We are stuck in Korea where he is stationed and will be here a little longer because of the war. I am not complaining about being here because at least I can be with him. We have many friends in Iraq right now so I understand why we are stuck here. We had planned on going last summer when we were home on leave but time just ran out. I sure hope that when we finally get to go we can help make someone's day like other people helped make yours. And we sure will appreciate being back home! :D

Dec 01 was Caitlyn's first trip to WDW... I was prepared for everything. Each day I had a spare outfit for her in a ziplock bag that I carried in my backpack. Caitlyn was able to stay reasonably clean so we never needed to use the spares... .at MK on Main Street as we were headed out of the park we saw a little girl naked standing up in her stroller (she was about 3 years old)... she had gotten sick all over her other clothes. I asked the mother what size clothing her daughter wore... reached into my backpack and handled the lady the ziplock with a clean outfit in it. She was shocked and wanted my address to mail the clothes back to me... Dan and I just smiled and said not to worry about it.

On more recent trips we have started taking tiny bottles of bubbles with us to blow while in lines.... Caitlyn loves to give them away to kids that don't look to be having a great time.

On our second trip to WDW we managed to make it to the Candlelight Processional...and it turned very cold (30's). My DD was 7 and not exactly dressed for the weather, but I had her wrapped up inside my jacket. Leaving her with my DH, I left for a few minutes to take pictures. On my return I found her wrapped in a heavy wool jacket. My DH said a CM said they couldn't stand to see a cold child and had loaned her their jacket!

Looking around at the guys in heavy coats down to their ankles it wasn't hard to spot the good samaritan, she was standing in a thin, short sleeved blouse about 30 feet away! She had to be freezing but you couldn't tell it by watching her. I felt so bad for her we cut out of the performance early. We had just wanted to see a little of it anyway but I couldn't leave her out in the cold either. She went far beyond anything we would have expected.

I wrote the company when we returned and they called one Saturday morning trying to figure out exactly which CM it was.

She really made our whole trip that much better. We never will forget what she did that night.

at our Disney store, pins were marked down to .75/ea, so I bought a bunch thinking that I could get a few extra lanyards, put several pins on each, and introduce others to pin trading by giving the lanyards out to kids when they ask about my pins. Random acts of kindness...pass it on:D

We just got back from WDW yesterday. We went to Epcot Wed evening(5:00) and missed getting fast passes for Test Track. Had decided to come back to Test Track the next morning as the wait was 60 minutes for standby. As we turned to leave, a gentlemen asked if we were going to go on Test Track. We said yes, we were, but would come in the morning. He said he had two extra fast passes and offered them to us. DM said for DD and I to go ahead and go since I wanted to ride it.

Just want to say a big THANK YOU to the person who gave us those fast passes. :D

The year Mulan came out my DD was 6 - she loved the movie and dressed as Mulan. We asked around and Mulan could only be seen outside the Great Movie Ride at 5:45. We'd gone to the hotel for a nap and were rushing back to MGM to see her, and running very late. When we arrived, there was still a crush of people seeking pictures and autographs from Mulan and Shang, and the CMs were already trying to get them off-stage. I told my DD that it looked like we were too late, but suggested we move around behind them so she could get a good look at Mulan when she left. They had a couple of CM's with them making polite apologies and trying to help them make their exit. Mulan had already gone back inside the building, when Shang saw us. He greeted DD very formally (as if she were royalty), asked her to wait, and went inside and got Mulan. He had the CMs keep everyone else away while DD talked with he and Mulan for 2 or 3 minutes and took pictures. That picture is on the wall of my office, and remains one of the fondest memories of my whole family.

I interned at WDW for two semesters and my favorite part of the job was helping the guests have a magical visit. I worked one semester at Disney Clothiers and would time my breaks so that they would coincide with the parades or the fireworks, so I could help with "crowd control." Mostly, I'd just interact with the guests, and take photos of families. "Hey Dad, want to be in the photo, too?"

One time as a guest, I felt the kind of magic I had been trying to create. I was with my sister, who was 10 at the time. She LOVES Pluto. During the Spectromagic Parade, I called out to Pluto, "Hi Pluto! You're my baby sister's favorite." I don't know how Pluto heard me, but he came over and gave me and my sister a hug, then pulled my sister out into the parade! The danced down the road a bit, and then he brought her back. She's almost 20 now and still talks about that.

I love reading these great things!!!!!
I have one too...
DH and I were in the Magic Kingdom looking at pins, and at the base of my lanyard, I have a fab 4 fastpass holder that just clips on. I gentleman and his wife were there looking also and noticed my FP holder and mentioned it. So DH takes his off and hands it to the gentleman. I honestly thought the gentleman was going to cry, it made me feel so good all day long.
