We have made reservations for the Ramada Maingate/Disneyland for July 6-10...yes, I know it will be HOT and we'll just have to make the best of it! Planning on getting to the park early and taking a break in the afternoon for some pool and rest time before going back in the evenings.
Can I get some feedback on this hotel? I'm such a worrier about spending $$ on a bad choice:scared:

I personally didn't like it much, but I'm in the minority. Personally I like a *hotel*, and I'm willing to walk a few minutes more to stay at the Ramada Plaza instead of the Maingate *motel*.

If you have dietary limitations of just about any sort, Maingate's breakfast isn't useful. I think I was able to eat the hardboiled eggs, but they were terrible, so there was nothin' for me. We ate at the parks instead.

I'll point out that we are not fancy hotel people, we just want somewhere clean to sleep, take a break and is walking distance to the parks. I have stayed there two summers in a row during construction, one regular double queen and this time deluxe double queen. I ended up with deluxe because that's all they had at the time I booked. To be honest, I couldn't tell you the difference between the two so I wouldn't bother with deluxe if given the choice.

I found the rooms clean and comfortable. While my standards are not super high, they are up there as I was a maid in a Las Vegas hotel for 7 years. If I found something unacceptable I would not have hesitated to go right to the front desk.

The staff is very friendly and courteous. Last summer I had an issue with getting towels and even had the maid flat out tell me no. Called the front desk and got my towels. I did not let that deter me from booking again because I know from experience that some maids are less efficient then others. I had no such issue this trip and had every request met in a timely fashion with a smile.

This is the only hotel that has consistently honered my request for a ground floor room. Seems a small thing but it's a big deal to me. The breakfast isn't fancy but it's more substantial then others and kept us going until we could have a real meal. Once in the room we never heard the construction and never heard other guests unless they were right outside our room.

If you want a basic, clean room with courteous staff close to the parks it's a good choice IMO.

We have always enjoyed this hotel.......the pool is great! Heated, large, zero entry and mini splash pad area. My boys loved it and I loved that the water was a comfortable temperature for me! LOL. We have stayed here many, many times. Last time being last July! Yes, it was hot, but we had a great trip! Like the above poster mentioned, they have always honored our room requests as well. We especially love the rooms in the new building, on the top floor. Great views and minimizes the noise from the ground (cars, people walking, etc) They recently added a parking fee, but it isn't too expensive thankfully. If you are expecting a high end hotel, you will be disappointed, but if you go in expecting a nicer motel, I think you should be fine. We have always had super clean rooms (I am really picky about that) and the walk is so easy! I recommend getting take out from Tony Roma's next door or from the restaurants from Garden Walk (quick walk from Ramada). We saved money and had leftovers! So the fridge and microwave in the room really helped =) Enjoy your trip!

I agree in part with both pp's! The breakfast is inadequate, but I like everything else about the Ramada Maingate. We are locals, AP holders, and do 2-4 overnight trips a year. Most have been at this hotel. Mostly because it frequently has the lowest price I can find of the better rated hotels on Harbor. Other than the breakfast, I have never been dissappointed. The staff has always been great. Any problems I've encountered have always been swiftly taken care of. We will probably be staying there again late August/early Sept.

We just got back from our Disneyland trip and stayed at Ramada MATP. This is the 4th time we've stayed there over the last 12 months. I was reluctant to stay there the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th times because housekeeping has always been short staffed and the rooms show it (even the new rooms), but we were pleasantly surprised this trip with our very clean room and carpet, and full daily service. (On other trips, the housekeepers pretty much smoothed the covers, emptied the trash, and took away the dirty towels without restocking them.)
The pool is really cute; we used it once when my kids were around 7 and 9 and they thought it was great -- they said it was just as fun as the HoJo pool.
The breakfast is the same as at Park Vue, BWPPI, and BW Anaheim Inn except for that they don't offer meat (if you call what Park Vue offers meat!) or hot "eggs", or waffles.
The healthy items they offer at Ramada MATP: hardboiled eggs, fruit (bananas, apples, oranges -- 2 choices each day), coffee, tea, and cold water.

The other options include: donuts, oatmeal, toast, bagels, 3 cereal choices (Froot Loops, Corn Flakes, Cheerios, and Frosted Flakes were among the choices last week) and milk, and sometimes the staff makes biscuits and gravy that's not half bad. The orange juice is orange juice concentrate, but the apple "juice" is not juice -- the label states that it is an apple juice "product" and has artificial ingredients. Gross. Not that it's healthy anyway, but is it really that much more expensive to use real apple juice?
You'll save $20-$40 per night over BWPPI, which I also like a lot. Do try to get a queen room though; the doubles are cramped.
Also, make sure you're getting the best special (AP rate, gas special, etc.), and keep checking rooms up until the day you'd have to cancel your first reservation -- I've scored rooms for under $100 that way; rebook and cancel the first reservation.

We stayed there last year. The rooms have had many upgrades including very nice new beds. Everything was clean and in good repair and the staff was very responsive. The pool is kept spotless and the grounds are full of color.
Our AC was very musty smelling and upon notifying the person at the front counter, the AC was immediately replaced. Great service without any attitude or argument.
While this is not a 4 star hotel it is a perfectly nice, clean hotel.

We stayed there a couple years ago and really liked it, i find if you want better house keeping leave a $20 the first day. Those people get payed very low wage and drive hours to the job threw LA traffic. The free breakfast is FREE and has lots of things to eat, lots of fresh fruit, juice, milk, coffee. Seemed nice to me? We got a free upgrade and the room had a hot tub in it. Its a really easy walk to and from Disney(less then 5min.)
