Ram101 Trip Report/Travel Disaster!!

What a great TR! Good to know we're not the only ones who have mishaps en route. I wanna see Rohan!

It was a Coral snake all wound up on the walkway. DW said they almost stepped on it and she stood there keeping everyone away from it till they could find an employee. Well they found the employee, he threw a towel over it, picked it up and threw it in the woods. Now that's not the way to get rid of dangerous snakes around our kids. He said before he picked it up that they usually call pest control but my guess is he was on his way home and did not want to be bothered with waiting. We did not get any pictures of it! He also confirmed it was a coral snake and that it was a very dangerous snake!

I was really enjoying your TR until this part! How prevelant are these snakes? I have 4 very adventurous kiddos....now I'm worried about them happening upon a snake.

This WAS the ONLY ONE we saw in total and we have been there 3 weeks total. I am sure you will see them at some point if you stay long enough but like any animal they are normally more afraid of you then you are of them. I think this snake just got caught in the middle of the open by mistake. Just make sure you talk to your little ones about the dangers of wildlife. I wouldn't think that you would need to be more afraid of snakes in the Fort then you would camping in your neck of the woods with the Massasauga rattlesnake.
And one more thing. Always keep your children under adult supervision so that they don't get themselves into any trouble or danger! I see way too many young children unsupervised on a daily basis and those are normally the ones I have problems with when the get older!!!:goodvibes

DON'T WORRY, BE HAPPY!!! ;)

bouncingtiggers,

I agree with you, that is what I am most scared of when pulling the TT. Every sound I hear I tell the kids to be quiet so I can listen. I keep catching myself with "White Knuckle" syndrome. I most likely will be making our first trip to FW with the long haul in Aug/2010.

Have a safe trip.

This must be someones escaped pet.

Great trip report. Mishaps are far more fun to look back on than live through.

Was the snake a coral snake or a scarlet king snake this is how you tell with this ryyme

Red on yellow, kill a fellow. Red on black, won't hurt Jack."

The coral will have the red touching the yellow. The scarlet king snake will have the red touching the black.
