Can Disney raise the amount of points needed for any of the current DVC Resorts for any season at will? Or does Disney do that through the maint. fees?

We are giving some serious thought to DVC/resale but want to make sure we make an informed decision.

There are a set number of points for each DVC resort. Disney cannot change/increase that number, but can "rearrange" them. In other words, if they raise the number required for something, they must decrease something else so that the total remains the same.

So far, Disney has done this only once - at OKW. I don't see them doing so again unless demand really gets out of whack.

The points required for the non-DVC options can and have changed - those have mostly increased every year. It's not a good economic choice to buy DVC unless you plan to use the points to mostly stay at one of the DVC resorts.

Best wishes -

Why would someone not stay at a DVC resort that is a DVC member? Unless they are out of points for their UY.

They do it every year around Easter/Spring break since that moves around every year.

Some people stay at regular Disney resorts occasionally using points because it may be favorite of theirs, or because it may be a special occasion. You are correct in your tinking that it is not the most economical use of points.

I don't tink that often. :rotfl2:

Thanks for the :rotfl: Chuck.

Actually, they're not raising the points during this time of the year, but they're moving the Premier Season from one week to another. Most seasons remain the same for the weeks listed; however, Easter week is different from year to year. The other 2 weeks that tend to change are the Magic Season weeks that precede and follow Easter week. Otherwise, the point levels for all other weeks have remained the same. I believe that if they were to make changes, an example would be:
A Sunday in Adventure season in a studio is now 8 points per night. If it were to go up to 9 points a night, then the Friday night would have to drop to 15 points. The total for the week remains the same. However, it's doubtful they would do that since most people (especially locals) travel on the weekend. All hotels in this area would want to encourage midweek stays.
Hope that helps.

It does use more points to stay at the non-DVC resorts, but many like to sample the various resort experiences. If we are only planning a single trip that year, we don't mind using the extra points to try out a different resort experience.

On our honeymoon we met an older couple that only uses their points every 3 years to stay at the Poly. Not a great use of points in my opinion, but that's what they want.
