Raised part of birth certificate

What part of the birth cert should be raised? The state part? (trying to get it all together cause I can't wait!)
 
Most of the ones I 've seen have a seal, similar to the seal a notary public embosses on paperwork they're notarizing.
 
smahoney is right. IF you have a raised seal on your birth certificate (some states like mine do not) then it should be the seal of the state usually at the bottom that does look kind of like a notary stamp. If it isnt raised I would make sure that it at the very least is not a hospital birth record but a real birth certificate and it is certified. They now dont look for raised seals as much as they do a certified copy since alot of states dont raise seals (like mine)

Yes it's the state symbol. My children's from California don't have this and they are always taken them (all three times)

The official part is even filled out in purple pen.

Thank you all!! Now on to getting a good passport for my dh for all the cruises we're about to take (I'm sure he will want to do this every year after the aug one!)
 
BC didn't have the raised seals... so I applied for another one and they do. These ones look waaaaaay different then the one the hospital sent to me... I"m more than ready to go tooo!!
