Rainy Thanksgiving...through Dec 5th?

"Substantial Rainfall"!!!?? NO! I just want a sprinkle. A drizzle. Even some rain. Not a down pour!

So, CalvaryMike (a.k.a the DIS boards weatherman :goodvibes ) I know it's hard to tell for sure at this point but are you saying that you predict rain on Dec. 1st? Oh, I hope not. We're planning on taking my MIL who has never seen the Christmas decorations at DLR. If it was just us then the rain would't bother me too much but we can't bring DS if it looks like rain all day so we would have to cancel. :sad1:

I would go anyway! I am from portland oregon so rain is just a part of life. My DH and I will probably jump in puddles and skip around the park if it pours and no one is there lol once you are wet you are wet so just try to enjoy! :)

I was worried about rain last december too... But with it still 13 days until we leave for DL I am not to worried about the forecast that far out.... The weather changes every day many times... Not sweat it until you are there and its rainy

Don't freak out about this, guys! The chances are incredibly good that these are just scattered showers. I was there last year the same time we are going this year in Dec., and it DID rain. It was no big deal at all--all rides were up, and the crowds were so low. We loved it and it was our best trip to Disneyland so far. There is a reason why Anaheim has such low rainfall totals each year--often when it does rain, they don't get much.

I am actually happy it won't be hot and windy while we are there--that is the Anaheim weather I really hate!

And you don't catch cold from the cold or rain--that is an old wives tale. Just bring layers and a rain poncho for each person--just in case. The rain was so light when we were there last Dec. (and the weather.com website said "showers, heavy rain at times) that we never even ended up using our rain ponchos--our jackets were just fine.

we ordered our tickets!! we're committed for wed/thur/fri. 3day socal parkhoppers for $99woohoo thank you disboards!!!!!!!!

can you tell i'm excited?

I just checked 2 sites that I've been watching this week and the predictions for Dec. 1-5 have been upgraded! No mention of rain any longer...All the days are listed as at least partly sunny! I hope it stays this way!

IMHO, we will be having off and on significant rain maybe starting as early as Monday night through the end of the month. If we get rain on Monday evening, it'll be light. This is a cut-off low and is really hard to predict. A couple models are calling for off and on light rain during this period, however some are calling for heavy rain at times.

Yorba Linda is getting prepared:
"While our city is already in the process of cleaning up, we must address another critical issue immediately," said Yorba Linda Mayor Jim Winder. "These mudflows may result in significant property damage, and even life-threatening emergencies."

Winder warned residents to be prepared to evacuate.

Residents should put sandbags around their property, Winder said; the city will distribute free sandbags to residents. Volunteers will begin moving sandbags to the burned areas today, and city employees will install concrete barriers around the city to redirect any mudflows.
Here is a model predicting heavy rain for the 29th (a 12 hour period):

To answer your question about December 1st, the models are currently predicting a dry period. However, just a couple of days ago, they were predicting sizable rain. Again, cut-off lows are hard to predict and this could change again tomorrow.

Update at 8:55 a.m.
AFTER THE FIRST OF DECEMBER WITH ALL SORTS OF POSSIBILITIES. THERE IS A MJO IN THE WESTERN PACIFIC THAT WILL PLAY AN IMPORTANT PART IN OUR SENSIBLE WEATHER THE FIRST CALENDER WEEK OF DECEMBER. EVERYTHING FROM AN "ARCTIC LOW" TO A BREAK THROUGH OF THE WESTERLIES UNDER A BLOCKING HIGH OVER ALASKA, LATE IN THAT PERIOD IS POSSIBLE. THAT WEEK COULD BE A VERY EXCITING WEATHER WEEK FOR FOLKS IN CALIFORNIA.

Unfortunately, I feel this weather pattern is going to take place and I'd be prepared for possible heavy rain at times. I usually put up my Christmas lights the few days following Thanksgiving, but now I'm starting this weekend. I understand what most of you are going through with your upcoming trip. I leave for WDW in 2 weeks and I wouldn't want cold rain to disrupt our trip either.

Thanks for the info. We are leaving on Dec. 3rd and while it is too early to really predict, I'm hoping that the most recent forecasts for that week will stay that way....Just a little bit of hope for people going that week. But I will make sure we are prepared either way. I hope you hava a wonderful trip!

So it going to rain, or not? The weather people can't make up their mind!

Well, I'm packing and preparing for rain! Just to be safe. If it doesn't rain, oh well! :)

Rainy days at DLR are the BEST!!!!!! You go in your poncho and just HAVE FUN!!!! It feels like it's just you and about 75 other people! When it pours, DLR is the first place I go!!!!!

Remember: Rain is SoCal is NOT like rain every where else. It's not that cold and its fun!!!!!!

I agree! Best trip we took had rain and no crowds! It was perfect. All the rides were going and we were laughing and running from ride to ride.:santa: It just rains for a short time, then the sun comes back out.

I told myself that this morning to calm down.

It's not utah rain in the winter (which is horrid)

*deep breaths*

Echoing other posters who've said that CA rain isn't like rain in other places :)

Disneyland in the rain is even more fun than Disneyland on a sunny day! For some reason, the rain makes the Park clear out, you will be able to go on lots of rides with a minimal wait! Just make sure you wear shoes that won't get soaked through, and bring and umbrella and/or a poncho!

I'm with you; rain will not derail our Disneyland plans! :thumbsup2 :yay:
However, I'd really rather see the sun while I'm there. I miss it. :cool2:

I'll be anxiously awaiting the weather forecasts, since we leave for DL in a little over one week. Here's wishing all you Southern Californians a little sprinkle, not a downpour. :shamrock:

This isn't good for our burned hillsides: :scared1:
BY (Monday) NOON THE GFS HAS THE STORM 600 NM WEST OF POINT CONCEPTION AND ALSO SHOW A GOOD SLUG OF SUB TROPICAL MOISTURE WEST OF THE BAJA PENINSULA. THE RAIN WILL VERY LIKELY HOLD OFF UNTIL NIGHT TIME.

OVERNIGHT AS BOTH THE STORM AND THE SUB TROPICAL MOISTURE CONVERGE ON SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA BOTH THE CLOUDS AND CHANCE OF RAIN WILL INCREASE. BY DAWN RAIN WILL BE LIKELY OVER THE ENTIRE CWA EXCEPT FOR THE ANTELOPE VLY. THE ONE VERY IMPORTANT ITEM FOR THIS PERIOD IS A JET MAX THAT WILL BE OVERHEAD FROM AROUND MIDNIGHT TO DAWN. THIS JET ENERGY COULD VERY WELL PRODUCE SOME THUNDERSTORMS AND TRAINING CELLS MOVING FROM SOUTH TO NORTH RIGHT INTO THE SOUTH FACING SLOPES. THIS SCENARIO WOULD BRING MUCH MORE RAIN TO THE AREA THAN CURRENTLY FORECAST AND WILL HAVE TO BE MONITORED VERY CAREFULLY.

SNOW AMOUNTS SHOULD NOT BE TOO GREAT AS MOST OF THE PRECIP WILL HAVE FALLEN BEFORE THE COLDER AIR ARRIVES. LOOK FOR 2 INCH AMOUNTS AT THE 6500 FOOT LEVEL AND 2 TO 4 INCHES AT THE RESORT LEVELS.
