What do you do when it rains? We are going to WDW mid June and I have heard that summer storms roll thru and it rains..Do these storms last all day or is it just a quick rain? Do the rides shut down? Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks in advance!
From what I remember from my last trip to WDW, the summer rains are quick and strong. It pours for 15 minutes, then the sun comes out and it's over.
Be SURE to bring some dollar store ponchos and to have them in your backpacks; the ones in the park are expensive. Also include a chamois or towel for drying off wet rides after the rain.
As I recall, the rides don't shut down unless there's thunder and lightening. Most people duck into an indoor attraction, a shop or a restaurant, stay for the 20 minutes and then go on with their day. If the rain isn't too bad, many people throw on a poncho and stay in the greatly reduced lines.
it was so hot and humid the last time i was there in June tha we made fun of the rain when we were in the parks and jumped in puddles and just let the kiddos get wet! during those humid months we always carry extra clothes for the kiddos so if they got too wet we would just change them.
i agree with the other posters. if taking a stroller, be sure to cover it even if it doesn't look like rain. in the MK things are pretty close together and mostly inside so we weren't out in the rain for very long periods and the rain didn't last terribly long. i always wore waterproof mascara, lol!
I lived in the South (Atlanta) for quite a while and visit there numerous times throughout the year, and I know with my experiences, if and when it rains, it's for like 20-30 minutes and then it stops.
As my dad says, "if you don't like the weather in the South, wait 10 minutes..."
And I know I'm going to get slack for this, but Florida is about as South as you can get.....
Water parks are the only "victims" of the summer storms that roll through at that time of year. We made the mistake (only once) of getting PHP passes the first trip and what a waste they clear the park with any sign of lightning and we never did make it through on a major attraction at either park no more PHP for us. We pack ponchos, use the time to hit a show or meal and it usually is over in minutes at the park. It's no worse than getting wet on a water ride--just don't get all upset about the makeup or hairdo and you'll be fine. any of the fireworks shows or parades WILL be cancelled for rain; Illuminations usually goes on through anything.
