Raining Acorns

I thought I'd share a couple of pictures of my nutty deck with the UK crowd. We have a beautiful oak tree which overhangs the deck and house, but at the moment it's a terrific nuisance. DH swept up the mess this past Sunday and this is what is looks like this morning. Oh well, the squirrels are fat and happy.

I love all that beautiful lush green American wilderness out there though. Where is it you live Steph?

I live in northern Virginia, Prince William County, a burb of Washington DC. It is really pretty at the moment; we've had some decent rain and all has greened up nicely. I'm afraid I don't live in the wilderness, it's just a clever illusion. I'm about a minute from Prince William Parkway (big road), and seven minutes from one of the largest shopping complexes in the country. But, I can sit out on the deck and pretend that I'm in the wilderness--while I'm dodging acorns.

It looks really lovely. I can just imagine sitting drink in hand on your deck. Even if i do have to dodge acorns!!

Looks fabulous, Steph. Are the squirrels friendly?? We have one - a mum - who actually comes into our conservatory where we keep the birds nuts and seeds

Every day my car is pelted with acorns by mature oaks as I drive down a road nearby - the first time it happened I was really startled ( I almost ducked ) We have a great number of squirrels here too.

I should think you have to stand clear when they shower down on you Steph!!

Thanks for all the nice comments about my backyard. I hadn't really thought about it being super special. Most of my neighbors have nicer gardens than we do. We need to do some work.

Yes, we have lots of little creatures running around here. It is fun to sit in the family room and watch the squirrels run around on the deck. The dog isn't so excited about his territory being invaded.

Shirley, I'd think that the acorns could do some serious damage to your car. It's funny to hear them pelting the roof, windows and deck all day.

You're all welcome to come have a cup of tea on my nutty deck. It's a bit of drive though.
