Hello, just wanted to get some opinions on the Rainforest Cafe at DTD. On our trip last year, we ate at T-Rex, which the kids loved (the theming is very cool, but I wasn't as crazy about the food especially for what we paid).

I'm thinking about trying the Rainforest Cafe for our trip in June, but wanted some opinions on the food, theming, etc.

TIA! :)

Hey there Allie!

My family and I visit at least one of those two restaurants every time we do our Disney vacation. In my opinion, T-Rex & RainForest are basically the same restaurant with different themes. Personally, I think they are fun places to eat with good portions but I think it is very standard food (Burgers & Fries) at a premium price.

I kind of hate writing on boards because the other person, you, can't get the tone of my message. So let me tell you that in the next statement I am just making a general statement and it is nothing against you ... I hate to think that somebody would think I am talking down to them ... I certainly don't want to do that!!! ;) Just wanna help! :wizard:

When you eat in a place like RainForest or T-Rex you really aren't paying for the food so much as the ambiance. I mean think about it ... any given eatery in Disney (Or any park for that matter) is very expensive compared to its off property counterpart!

For example, and this is just my opinion, the Teppan Edo restaurant in EPCOT's Japan Pavilion is a glorified Kobe restaurant. Same idea but I can go off Disney property to Kobe, get more food (Just as yummy), a better show, and pay less for it ... BUT ... I'm not IN Disney so the difference in price is due to ambiance. pirate:

Come on, you can get a burger and fries or ribs at almost any eatery and pay A LOT less than Rain or T ... it's all about WHERE you're eating ;) Which is why I always tell anyone who I happen to be giving advice on a vacation to that IF POSSIBLE eating off property will save some $$$ on your food budget.

I hope I made sense to you ... sometimes I only seem to make sense to myself. If I didn't quite answer your question PLEASE let me know and I will answer it as quickly as I can!!!

Our Ratings of Rain Forest Café & T-Rex Cafés:
. . . food price value: C
. . . food quality: C
. . . food quantity per serving: B
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: B
. . . seating comfort: D
. . . eatery atmosphere: A
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff helpfulness: A
. . . character interaction: n/a

NOTE: The portions are pretty much commiserate with the price.
However, one is paying a premium for the atmosphere of Rain Forest
or T-Rex. The environment and animatronics are clever and amuse most
kids, as well as many adults. The Chocolate Volcano dessert at Rainforest
and Chocolate Extinction dessert at T-Rex are adventures. Due to the
price, many people expect far better food/service and are disappointed.
We think the food is average-to-above, but enjoy the theming/theatrics.

The two places are very similar. If you weren't trilled with T-Rex, then you won't be trilled with RF - both from a food and theming perspective.

We've been to both countless times and have our favorites at each. I don't know if we like TRex more because it is something (sort of) new or it is better but we go there more than Rainforest. Both are pricey for what you get but I think the food is Bette at TRex. That being said, we still go to Rainforest, just not as often as we use to.

I have to say that TheRustyScupper, as far as I'm concerned, made a very accurate report card for the place! I think the only place where there is a SLIGHT, completely personal and subjective, disagreement is food quality.

I think I'd give it a B- ... there's nothing wrong with the food ... it is very yummy ... it's just that you could find the same thing elsewhere for a cheaper price.

Other than that little personal tweak I think TheRustyScupper hit it dead on!

My family and I use to eat at their location at Downtown Disney all the time, however since their prices kept going up and with the opening of Earl of Sandwich we no longer eat there. I always use to order the Planet Earth Pasta which was like $16.99 and an extra $3.00 if I wanted to add Chicken. For a lot less I can go to the Olive Garden and order better Pasta, plus they include unlimited Soup or Salad and Garlic Bread sticks. Now the service we got at the Rainforest Cafe had always been great, we just don't think it's worth for what their food now costs.
