I have heard / read something about sound effects and it being very loud. Is it too scary for a two year old? :confused3

TIA

If your child doesn't like loud noises, then yes, it probably is a bit much. Other than just the normal hustle bustle of the restaurant, there's a growling gorilla, screeching monkeys and birds, and thunderstorm effects. And that was just in our vicinity of the restaurant.

And don't even get me started on the waiters when they deliver a Volcano to a table. They delivered at least five while we were there last trip, and they do this loud clapping, cheering, singing thing every time. It's cute the first time and even the second time. After that, it just starts grating on your nerves.

They do take reservations but I believe you have to call them directly to make one. The number for the downtown disney site is 407-827-8500 and the Animal Kingdom location is 407-938-9100. It is pretty crowded at lunch so an ADR is a good idea unless you want to get in line approx. 15 - 30 mins prior to opening. This is for the Downtown Disney site. I'm not sure how busy the A.K. one is.

I just thought I clear something for you about the wait for a table at the Downtown Disney location since it's the only one my family and I have been to. Basically there can be 2 different waiting times. Once you give your name you will be told to either step into the Gorilla or Elephant line, so if you do that then your going to be seated within a few minutes. However if you are not told that then your going to be given a little piece of paper with your name and an approximant time when your name would be called. Once they call your name you go back where you 1st gave your name, then you are told to either go in the Gorilla or Elephant line and will be seated within a few minutes.

We ate at Rainforest Cafe in Animal Kingdom last June. My 8-year-old loved it, although for a younger one it might be a bit loud. Definitely fun for a kid who loves animals though. The prices are pretty high though, we actually just got desert and a soda (it was late in the evening on one of Animal Kingdom's extra magic hours) and our bill was as much as if we all ate a meal with appetizers at other restaurants! Fun atmosphere though. Check out their menu on their website, Rainforestcafe.com.

I will go to the bar for a few drinks and the crab dip - sooooo good.
But I won't go anymore for a lunch or dinner in the restaurant. It's too loud to carry on a conversation with your companions. It got to the point where I'd be yelling at the audio animatronic gorilla "ENOUGH ALREADY" everytime he started screeching.

I haven't eaten at the DTD RFC, but I have eaten at the AK one. We had a three-year-old w/ us at the time, and it didn't phase her one bit...but you know best how your child will react to it. We're going in Dec. and will be taking our 3-year-old, and I think she'll handle it ok.

Our boys 4 and 6 loved it and we have it on our list again in October. It was probably one of our longer meals because our boys were so distracted with the animals that it took longer for them to eat. The food was very good. We had a 4:45 ADR at the RFC at AK and left for the restaurant after the Jungle Jammin Parade at 4:00. We plan to do the same this year. It was one of the highlights of the trip for our boys!
