Rainforest Cafe OUTRAGE!

So true.

Heck, their meals are too big for some people!

Back when the Rainforest had their own club we could always get a free appetizer. I ordered the quesadilla as my meal because it was so much food.

Maybe your server felt you didn't need the calories? Believe me, I can see that day coming in the future!

But in this situation, the server was correct because of how the guests were paying their bill. The DDP will not cover a Volcano with only two credits.

Now if I were a server, I would have told them to pick two desserts the DDP covered that were portable and we could package them to go. Then order your Volcano and pay out of pocket. You will get two bills, and two desserts to go and I, the server, would get a bigger tip. No need at all to involve the manager. The situation is black and white, but workable.
That's why I'm curious to hear what the manager said from the OP, because he spoke with the manager. You wouldn't even need to order to go, just 2 separate bills if for some reason it couldn't be put on one. And it sounded like the manager told them that "it was against company policy to order the volcano for 2 people".

I didn't mean take the dessert to go as some kind of policy or receipt, but more how could they eat a dessert AND a volcano. Since the DDP was paying for the dessert, why not get some cheesecake to go for a midnight snack or breakfast.

Gotcha. Makes sense.

I don't see why it would've been a problem to order included desserts AND pay for the volcano OOP... was this suggested? It sounds like a bit of a miscommunication here.

I'm sorry it happened to you. In the future, ask to speak to a manager right away when it can be resolved to your satisfaction versus being disappointed about it forever.

OP, were you just trying to pay the 1 credit difference? Or did you offer to pay the full price of the volcano? If you offered to pay full price and they said you can't, then e-mail the Landry to complain because that server and manager got it wrong.

My honest guess is a huge misunderstanding or lack of knowledge occurred. The waiter might have thought the OP was trying to use the DDP exclusively or that they were trying to "pay" the difference. Or the waiter might not have known that the OP could just pay OOP for the dessert.

When it came to the manager it could be either the waiter explained it as they had interpreted the situation or the manager assumed what the waiter had assumed.

I wasn't there so I honestly can't know for sure either.

I do know that in the past I have run into employees just as a generality who are unfamilar with how to do something and then either don't get assistance to double check or they do and that person is just as clueless; the majority of the time I know something can be done it's just that person may have not run into that situation before or someone told them it couldn't be done in error.

this does sound like a huge misunderstanding. Maybe they thought you wanted to pay just the difference between what you were entitled to on the DDP and the volcano rather than the whole volcano. I too, am curious, about exactly what was said to the manager and what the manager said back. But I'm sorry you were disappointed. Outrage might be a little strong but definitely reason for disappointment.

But it isn't Landry's policy. I've been going to Rainforest Cafe for several years, and we always order that desert. There was a miscommunication somewhere. I just don't want people reading this to think they must have 3 people to order it.
I was simply replying to the person who was in essence blaming Disney here when the focus should be on Landry's.The policies in the Landry's are Landry's not Disney's. If the employee didn't follow Landry's own policies then that's where the problem is and not in Disney's lap. I wan't criticizing you and you are correct in making sure people understand the situation.

Outrage over a dessert? Where's the first world problems thread?
With all due respect you could say that about this entire forum...doesn't make much sense to be a part of a community where people talk about going to a theme park, luxury hotel, cruises, Disney experiences throughout the world and then when someone says something you find trival say "first world problems"...all of those things could be considered only something someone in a first world may be able to experience (just as a general statement here).

There are def. cases where I feel that someone's complaint or grievance is not what I would consider a huge deal but I'm certaintly not going to reply to them with the now catch-all phrase "first world problems".

I knew you weren't. Rainforest Cafe is one of my kid's fave places to eat when we visit Florida. Just didn't want another mother or father to read this and think they couldn't take their own kid there without another adult.

If you are talking about me, I wasn't blaming Disney, I was trying to convey more along the lines of "It's Disney World...make it work." I wasn't thinking about RFC not being a Disney property. My bad!

Exactly!
I can't get the ADR I want = First World Problems
Disney changed their hours and now my PPO ADR is ruined = First World Problems
Any problem we have involving an expensive Disney vacation is a first world problem. We can still be upset by hiccups and commiserate together!

I honestly believe this was a simple situation of a miscommunication and misunderstanding on the part of all parties.

Back when the Rainforest had their own club we could always get a free appetizer. I ordered the quesadilla as my meal because it was so much food.

Same. (But without the chicken.) Actually, the pita quesadilla is what I ALWAYS order for myself, and I usually have to share with my son b/c it's so big.

And I've never once had room for dessert there. What are we doing wrong with our stomachs?

I have yet to eat dessert at the Rainforest either. No room for it!
